Jerome Bogar is the absolute worst ref in the league, guy needs to be doing little league games somewhere.
What's hilarious is that people are praising yesterday's game as being the anti-Kubiak, not vanilla, mocking the use of an IHOP menu by Kubiak and how much better the team was without it... They scored 17 points against a team that looked like a total mess yesterday. That's actually less than the disaster 2-14 team last year averaged for the year. Kubiak only had one season where his team averaged less than 17 points and that was the Carr year. Every other year his teams averaged 20+. We also had good slugfest games under Kubiak as well, such as the Chicago game. I wanted Kubiak gone and I like the BOB hire, but yesterday didn't really prove anything about BOB being better than Kubiak.
I understand what you're saying about one game, but the vibe felt different as did the team looking more aggressive with their play. I think there's a different culture in the locker room and you could see it on the field.
Did you see how Cincinnati beat Baltimore yesterday... the difference is Washington didn't know what we were doing every offensive series.
Eh, they seemed to stuff us pretty good on some 3rd and shorts.... overall, I'd give the offensive execution about a C for yesterday. And that's actually a very good thing that they were still able to get a win despite several execution errors. This offense will take some time to get on the same page... just like Kubiak's team took about 2-3 years with consistent personnel to reach the upper echelon of offenses. I think for the first real game that featured AJ, Arian, Fitz, this O-line, and still missing their starting TE... there were expected bumps, but also some real positives. Arian still looks "good" (minus his fumble)... and I think he'll be a big x factor for what this offense wants to do game-in/game-out (and he won't necessarily be relied upon to carry the team nearly every game, as Kubiak wanted him to do... but if teams are allowing us to run, we will run). Didn't see a hell of a lot of miscommunication penalties (false starts)... didn't see a lot of illegal procedure/formation penalties... and no delay of games/wasted timeouts due to not having the right personnel on the field. Those are things that still plagued Schaub/Kubiak even when they were at the top of this division.
The NFL Game Rewind will be on NFL Network at 630pm cst...its not the full game but definitely a good summary!
Definitely agree that the defense was always going to be the biggest benefactor of this regime change. This team has invested a TON of picks and money into that side of the ball... and we all had suspected that Wade's scheme usually gets figured out by year 3 (and showed the predicted regression in year 2). Crenel's scheme also will get picked up on and show regression... but for now (much like 2011 when Wade's defense had every team saying "WTF?!?"), this defense is going to be carrying this team (even with an injured Clowney).
On the play that RGIII got intentional grounding, why isn't Watt credited with a sack? He should get two sacks imo.
I will never admit that, and I will admit that Fitzy did well yesterday, even though I was vying for Mallet to get the nod soon. It's not rocket science. If you saw Fitz in the preseason, most of his passes were weakly thrown and nearly picked off. His demeanor on the field didn't resemble one that could carry a winning team. I don't care what the expectations are, but I want to win. Guys like AJ deserve that, and I want us to be a competitive team. Let's continue to see how Fitz does. I'm happy we got the win. But prior to that TD pass, the offense was stagnant. It doesn't hurt to think what Mallet could do if he's given the reigns.
Mallet is not behind Tom Brady any more. I wouldn't be surprised if OBrien has reminded him of that (privately) and challenged him to get up to speed. I agree that Fitzpatrick appears "shaky." At times his passes looked "sand lot" soft. I can't help but think that we will see Mallet sooner than later. We are going to run out of Skins and Raiders pretty quick.
Well not too quickly, we have the Raiders, Giants, Bills, and Cowboys coming up and none of those teams are worth a damn. Also, depending on what procedure he has done, we could have Clowney back after that stretch
Having a lead and not coughing it up was definitely a start. As discombobulated as the offense was yesterday, Arian Foster had 27 carries for 100+ yds, with essentially no real game reps. Defense was solid throughout the game, especially creating 2 huge turnovers in the red zone. Special teams wasnt a laughing stock... A new offense takes time to click, but the impact on defense should be immediate. Its one game, but we have won a game in approx one year, and it sure as heck feels much better than losing
