But those guys have already been moved around for salary matching.

I'm guessing that the Rockets will try to turn the Jason Terry trade into a three-team deal if they can get another core piece in the process. They did the same exact thing with the Asik trade, rolling it into a three-team deal with Washington in order to acquire a signed-and-traded Trevor Ariza without having to use cap space.

I also think that's a main reason why it has not yet been reported who (besides Alonzo Gee) is going to Sacramento. Obviously, Gee's salary is required for matching purposes, but the other players may be moved around depending on what a hypothetical third team's roster needs/room are.

As others have pointed out, Sacramento would presumably be willing to wait beyond the September 15 date on which the Terry trade can first be done before consummating the deal, since the $5.85 million trade exception they'd generate in the process would then have a later expiration date.

Sure, the Terry trade may end up going through as a simple two-team deal, in which case the Rockets would have to use Papanikolaou's deal to make a larger trade during training camp (a la the Harden trade) or have to wait until December to use Terry in a really big deal (if they don't trade Terry by himself first in a smaller deal). But the Rockets will certainly seek to maximize the assets they currently have (namely, the non-guaranteed contracts of Gee, Hopson and Powell) while they still technically have them.

I'm sure they'll try, but the comparison to the Asik deal is minimal in this case because there's not really any Arizas out there. The only guy of similar stature is Bledsoe and his salary demands far outpace any combination the Rockets could form while also adding Terry. Pap has not yet signed so his clock hasn't even started. They've already measured the value of their non guaranteeds. They equaled a salary dump of a larger salary that could help them in a deadline deal. Smart move, but this thread is so desperate for that elusive, offseason saving move that everything is considered to be more significant than it actually is

In my hypotheyical, Terry would be going to the third team, making the Gee/Hopson/Powell combo going to SAC count for matching purposes for the incoming salary (e.g., Bledsoe).

I'm not arguing that this is LIKELY to happen.

I'm just debunking your notion that it is impossible.

There's lots of trade options here since none of the trades or free agent signings have actually gone through yet after Asik and Lin went out. There is still actually the possibility of operating below the cap since technically Adrien, Dorsey, Ish, and Garcia's contracts haven't gone through. We could still trade Kosta's rights and let the receiving team sign him to the same $4.8 million he agreed to, using a portion of their MLE. We could also still redo Garcia's contract and give him a larger salary with a partial guarantee since he hasn't officially been signed yet. And of course we could still turn the Terry trade into a 3-team deal.

Morey is preserving maximum acquisition flexibility until the last possible moment. I'm not saying we're going under the cap. But it is still a possibility that Morey has kept the door open to for some reason.

I simply can't imagine that a PG trade is a priority for Morey. Our weakest position is PF, and Morey has said as much.

At this point with Love gone to Cleveland, the best way to acquire a quality 4 is going to be through trade...if indeed one becomes available. It's time to max out our assets and make sure they are trade-able.

The Nick Johnson, Jeff Adrien, Ish Smith, Joey Dorsey and Francisco Garcia signings are all official.

The Rockets do not make official announcements until everything has been completed.

I was watching the Jaylen and Jacoby Podcast today and heard a interesting theory.

Lebron and Bledsoe have the same agent. Also that Lebron feels that Bledsoe is a better defender than Erving.

A Erving for Bledsoe sign and traded does not seem that far fetched. I would be all for helping it happen if we get Goran in the process.
