He's got an advantage there in that I'm sure BOB uses similar terminology to what he used when he ran the offense in NE. Shouldn't take Mallett too long to get up to speed.

I just don't want to see Fitzpatrick play another down in our jerseys. He is just horrible and BOB knows it.

I'm not sold that Mallett is any better unfortunately. He has a cannon of an arm, but that alone does not a QB make.

There was an article which I don't have time to dig up that went through and charted all the descriptive language used on college QB's to see what characteristics translated to successful pro QB's and "strong arm" was essentially "no better than placebo" for being successful in the NFL. As long as you don't have a wet noodle for an arm, things like accuracy, vision, and intelligence are things that actually can be used for predicting future success. Monster arm, not really at all.

Hopefully we won't have to see Mallett this season.

You mean Matt Cassel's backup? Why? He bombed his Wonderlic and he's not particularly accurate on passes of more than a few yards past the LOS.

I'm down with this. Making Mallet the starter week one ensures us the number 1-4 pick!

He does know what he's talking about, but he's not always right. A few years ago he was all over Matt Barkley predicting that he'd be a franchise QB and he had a presentation that was just as convincing for him before that draft.

That's sort of the problem with BK (if there is one), that he's so convincing with his articles that he can make a great case for something that isn't at all true....to the point that people believe it anyway.

That said, he's right a LOT more than he's wrong so you can consider pretty much anything he says to be very solid information.

I think Mallet maybe BO'B's plan from the start
Why bring in a QB when you have your eye on a target

I think he starts by Week 4 at the latest

OBrien has not announced his starting QB for week one has he? Could be a big surprise, a BIG surprise. I think many of you who are totally discounting Mallet are going to be shocked when you actually see him play. Bet he is working around the clock with the first teamers right now.Awfully quiet over there in Texansland.

What's the point of trading for Mallet t if BOB doesn't find out if he's the answer THIS year. Mallett's in the final year of his contract. This might be our only chance to see if he's our QB for the future. Why risk passing on this opportunity?

Considering the weird silence from the FO regarding the trade, I'll bet Mallett is the starter by week 2

Yes he has and it's Fitzpatrick... There is no way they throw him out for his first NFL start with only a weeks worth of practice.

OBrien has repeatedly said that Fitzpatrick is the starter. He doesn't need to name a starter AGAIN when he has said there was no competition and that Fitzpatrick was his starter previously.

They may turn to Mallet if they like what they see in practice, but they may also have traded for him simply because they like him better as a backup than Keenum.

I am kind of messing with you'll a bit, but Mallet is worlds better than he is being described in this thread. Seems really unlikely that he would start the first week, but Fitzpatrick is no longer the only real option.

I just want to bomb this entire season so we can secure our shot at a top QB (maybe Winston) this offseason. I'm tired of being in this quarterback limbo.
