It isn't his dog, and there is a good chance it is micro chipped. The last thing he wants to do is take it to a shelter and have the shelter call his girlfriend and say "CCCORN" dropped off your dog.

Another option is to go the chocolate route, but that takes too a lot of chocolate and if the dog is found prior to expiring I am sure his girlfriend will take it to the vet and that gets expensive.
