Coach and GM have to be on the same page or its not going to work. I know you guys remember Adelman/ Morey had issues like this and that's why Adelman left the Rockets.
It was reported on TV on Friday that Porter told Crane he may not be able to work with Luhnow for another season. That said. The timing of this is odd. You would think they would wait until the last day of the season.
A good healthy business/team never has a situation where the employees just shut up and do what the boss says. A good healthy situation is where they can converse about things and come to agreements that work. Now, maybe Porter is the one here who is hard headed and won't listen to anyone (including Jeff). And if so, then yea he probably had to go. From the outside looking in though, Jeff sure seems like the one with a power trip who could care less what others think Maybe i've just been lucky throughout my career and have always been able to share my opinion on things with my boss
It was obviously getting pretty bad, hence the story in the Chronicle and other places during the past week
This move was coming from what has been written the past week. We fired Bo Porter not ****ing Jim Leyland or some other hall of fame manager. I don't see the team as over achieving and basically going over your GM's head saying its him or me will get you fired every time.
Can you prove they didn't have discussions about the way things are done and that Bo just didn't want to work with what Lunhow wanted? Probably not. All your going by is what is being reported and your already jaded opinion of Lunhow. My guess is that both sides are to blame(Porter already said he couldn't work with Lunhow anymore) for not being able to work together. Lunhow makes the decisions, so until Crane thinks he is wrong he's in charge. Having seen Bo Porter's managing style, I'm not sure I'd put much trust in him.
Whether you agree with it or not, it is extremely clear that Crane has put the future of the on-field product entirely in Luhnow's hands. The Astros aren't the only organization that does this. While I had a lot of problems with Porter as a manager this team's bad record obviously wasn't his fault, in fact I think their record this year is about as good as you could have hoped for. The manager of the team moving forward is gonna have to be in lock step with Luhnow, it's just part of the job description. All that said Porter simply wasn't a very good manager IMO. It won't be hard to find people that want an MLB coaching job, and the manager in baseball is the least important coaching job in major sports.
The Astros Lineup changes will be telling Tuesday and the rest of the season. Something like Jake Marisnick will be made everyday center fielder going forward. No more days off for Singleton vs Lefties.
I'm really beginning to hate this team. Bo Porter might not have been a great manager, but we will never know because he never had a real team to work with. The embarassment associated with the Astros is absolutely never ending. They are the Rick Perry of professional sports.
Man how can we expect to keep the talent we have by tanking for another season after this one?? I doubt Springer and Altuve are here for another 3 years.
Astros...what a joke of an organization. Houston sports franchises for the most part are very questionably ran, thus the lack of much success. Frustrating being a sports fan here.
Obviously I can't prove what was going on behind the scenes. I clearly stated that in my posts. It is my OPINION that Jeff Luhnow is a very tough guy to work with, and it is my OPINION that the bad reputation the Astros front office is acquiring will hurt us in the long run. It is my OPINION that players (and maybe more importantly, agents) do not have a positive image of the way our organization is being run right now, which could really hurt us when it comes time to keep players and sign them long term, and even more so when we try to sign free agents (if we ever get to that point) For the record, I hope i'm wrong. I've rooted for this team my entire life, go to many games even through the past several years of horrendous baseball when the park is literally 90% empty, and I want the Houston Astros to be a contender again at some point fairly soon
