this season is the perfect one for a project at starting qb, we already know what fitz is. If you account for the familiarity mallet has with obrein there should be no question as to why this happened
Are those tattoos on his fingers real? I've seen that pic before, but have never been clear on if it was just a joke or not. As to the trade, it's not like the Texans gave up a whole lot to get him. He couldn't be any worse than what is already on the roster.... could he?
Tattoos aren't real. Also, I'll repeat that he has a high football IQ but a low social IQ. He doesn't sound great in interviews but he had tutelage under the great QB developer of Bobby Petrino here at Arkansas and nearly led us to a Rose Bowl victory. We were high as 3rd in the nation and ha a high-octane offense. I'm telling you, he just needs a fresh NFL start. Not to mention, he's a native Texan! He went to high school on the Texas side of Texarkana.
That statement would completely false if we woulda taken a chance on one of Bortles, Bridegwater, or Garappolo.
switching one incompetent QB with another....not a good look...Atleast on the bright side, the offense is essentially the same. Several thoughts on acquiring Mallet: 1. There was a real inquiry for him by the Texans earlier this year, that was a terrible kept secret. 2. The Patriots knowing this information tried to drive the price as high as possible. 3. The Patriots knowing a rookie QB that OBrien had in sights(Jimmy G) would be available via draft, swooped in and swept the kid from the Texans' grasp. 4. Mallet's contract situation was gonna force the Patriots to cut him...but chose to hold 3 QBs knowing that there is a high market for back up QBs.
Clowney was the consensus #1 pick by the media and the .com experts so there wasn't a snowball's chance in hell they were going to draft Blake (who probably was just as good if not a better pro prospect than Luck and Cam)... So he shouldn't even be in the discussion... Texans fans shouldn't even bring him up as being an option considering hardly anyone thought he was worth the pick. But they still had a chance at Zach Mettenburger, Carr Jr, Jimmy G, Teddy B, Logan Thomas, and Johnny. But maybe Mallet will end up being better than all of them... Maybe.
And how do you know that...??? If that was the case they would have drafted Jimmy instead of getting a guard in the 2nd round. Jimmy was considered a 2nd round prospect and the Texans passed him up. No one swooped in and swept the kid from the Texans.
From the Boston Globe >>>>>> After their joint practices with Washington, NFL Network’s Mike Mayock, who is friendly with Belichick, raved that Mallett is a “legitimate starting quarterback” and that he was “blown away” by Mallett’s performance in practice.<<<<<<
A 6th round pick compared to two 2nd round picks hardly represents the same level of faith or commitment in a QB.

I can't get the link on my ipad for some reason, but if you Google McCoy Ryan mallet you should find what I'm talking about... Gerald McCoy said that Ryan mallet is Tom Brady like and will be special for whoever he plays for. Said that after watching him in practice for a few years, he has tremendous respect for the guy. High praise for a backup qb from an opposing player.
