I agree with your post. we, as fans, must try to look past what the player has done in an opposing uniform. And by play hard you mean, don't pull a scottie quitten. ha ha
Good God Almighty!!! Good God Almighty!!! They've killed him...as God as my witness, he is broken in half!!!!! Gotta LOVE J.R.
People act like players on other teams personally did something to them. They were just doing their jobs and would have done the same no matter what uniform they were wearing.
That statement is just beyond silly. I realize that fan is short for fanatic but c'mon you have to use at least a little logic.
These leagues want desperately for you to take it personally. Saps like me fall for it. They want you to buy into their narratives of good guys and bad guys...and they want to convince you if you don't buy their product, no matter how bad it is, that you're a "bad fan" and that's a character flaw that can be extrapolated out to judge an entire municipality. You grow up "hating" certain teams and pledging allegiance to others. It should be of no surprise to anyone that people take sports personally...as silly as that really is.
People deserve disdain for off court issues, particularly the bad ones. But on court? maybe if they suck it up for your own team, but other teams? it's just business
What a steal for Morey. Giving up nothing for Jet and 2 2nd round picks. And just like that, Morey managed to scrap enough contracts in Jet + Papa + TE ( Lin trade ) for any all star going to bail his team.
it is a great trade Terry can fill the role of Lin....and we got 2 second round picks!!! what a steal
I'm happy with this trade. If Terry is anything like he was a couple of years ago, we got a decent 6th man. He sure loves playing in Toyota Center so that might actually work in our favor instead of the effin Mavs... OR... he's decent trade chip for whatever we could do in the near future.
Headline of the day or maybe the offseason if nothing major happens (Rondoesque) I had Terry in mind one or two seasons ago instead of Garcia and Casspi!
Whatever he did as a Maverick, he did it as a Maverick. We're at a win now situation and he is definitely someone we can use to give us the veteran leadership we've been lacking. Remember the Lakers team if the late 90's. They became significant contenders when they finally traded some of their youth and added vets to show them the way. Remember what Jason Kidd did for the Mavs during their run? What about Dikembe Mutumbo when he came to back up Yao? He definitely won't be asked to do much on the court but his presence can only be positive. He just might be our new Eddie Johnson. This isn't like the acquisition of Shandon Anderson where we thought he was going to be our future building block. We know Terry is ancient and he is more of Cessna than a Jet now but as long as he can knock a few open clutch 3's and make our players do what they need to do then he will be worth it.
To those dismissing Terry as washed up - while I think it unlikely we traded for him as a player myself, I also recall when we all mocked the acquisition of the corpse of Dikembe Mutumbo because he was "washed up". Then what happened? He gave us several great seasons worth of production. I'll reserve my judgment for Terry until I see him perform in our system (but god do I hope that never happens).
U do know Morey has to convince Rondo to resign with the Rockets the following year. So i doubt Morey is gonna trade Jones/TPE/Papa for some 1 year rental
This reminds me of the Bobby Jackson signing a few years back. Terry dropped off hard last year, but I didn't really follow him, so I'm not sure how much of that had to do with his situation, but if he has anything left, he might be a good backup to knock down free throws and such in crunch time. The move reeks of being temporary, and for what it is, I like the signing. We shouldn't hate him that much. At least he never stomped on Scola's face or anything.
