Well this preseason he completed 53.8% of his passes at 6.2 yards per attempt and a passer rating of 85.6 Last preseason he completed 55.3% of his passes at 5.9 yards per attempt and a passer rating of 80.3 The year before that he completed 49.3% of his passes at 4.5 yards per attempt and a passer rating of 70.5 His rookie year he completed 57.1% of his passes at 5.7 yards per attempt and a passer rating of 72 All of his preseason performances combined he has 8 TDs and 3 interceptions with only 1 of those TD's coming this year. What does that mean? He's not an accurate passer and he hasn't ever really stood out as a good QB, even in preseason. He only has 4 pass attempts in real games and 2 of them were completed, one to his team, one to the other team.
Wow, just got the news. I was against signing Mallett but now that it has happened Im kinda excited. There is no doubt the dude has potential and a cannon, I just hope his mind is right or gets right and he buys into O'B's system. This could be a game changer.
Same completion % as Keenum but more YPA and no INT's like Case. I really don't care. I wasn't high on him before but whatever, he's a backup. Can he be better than Case? I don't know, but Case wasn't good and Mallett has better physical traits than Keenum and is likely much more familiar with the system. So again, whatever. I'm not upset about losing Keenum. Hopefully Mallet doesn't even have to play.
Its funny that Keenum's 8 game sample from last year must be taken with a grain of salt because he didn't have any good teammates or coaching ... but Mallet going 1-4 with 1INT in his limited regular season work proves he is who he is... Not saying he's the "savior"... just pointing out the huge bias and agendas by most of the people who are just so angry with this acquisition.
Comparing someone to Keenum isn't exactly the best way to show that they are any good but even then Mallett never did anything as impressive as Keenum's preseason last year where he had a 68.3% completion percentage and a 106.7 passer rating.....and that's sad. Could Mallett end up better than Keenum? Maybe, but he's never done anything to suggest that he would be. That said, the fact that we compare him to Keenum shows that he's not impressive.
I wasn't trying to say he's good, just that I'm not going to get upset about it. We lose Case? I don't care. We lose a 7th round pick? Not really gonna get upset over that either. I don't think this is going to change anything as far as our long term QB plans. We simply have a backup that OB is more confident in for this season.
As long as he's just a backup that goes away after this season, then I'm all for it. There's no reason to worry about Keenum being gone, but there is absolutely reason to worry about BOB having too much faith in a scrub QB that has never done anything worth a damn in his career. I don't like it when coaches go out of their way to keep around "their guys" when they are no good.
That was Remix's post you responded to Baller... And I'm absolutely positive that Ricky and Bobby were interested in Mallet. Moves like that by the Texans doesn't surprise me at all.
I think this registers as an "I don't care." They didn't give up anything of value...and he's just about worth them not giving up anything. He'll likely be a backup. Hard to get too jazzed or too pissed about trading nothing for next to nothing.
It's important that Fitzpatrick fear there is someone who could take his spot, who could step in and run BoB's system if needed. Keenum/Savage were never going to do that. Mallet perhaps could.
