Looks like it can be a 6th if RM plays enough.

Not sure if it's 40% of the snaps this year or both years before 2016. At any rate if he doesn't pan out and leaves as a FA next year we might get a comp pick for him if we don't sign more FA than we lose that year. And QB's get higher scratch usually so that will help in the comp formula I think.

    And good luck to Case.

Matt Schaub can only dream he could throw the ball as hard as Mallett.

And also....dude played for a winning organization behind an all-time great.

    That counts for something.

I'm sure he soaked up something while he was there...

And he's better than Matt Cassell already....losing a 7th in 2016 means nothing.

It's worth a shot to see.

would rather him that Fitz, that's for SURE!

Besides the fact that Brady said he wants to play into his 40's....

They (pats) NEVER hold onto dead weight and sell when needed....next year Mallet would just walk.

Brady is healthy...the rookie showed flashes...Mallet became a piece that could get SOMETHING....Texans take that chance and see what's up.

It puts Fitz on notice and WHAT IF dude (Mallet) is actually..umm....good?

Anyone upset or trying to rationalize beyond that is an idiot.

    It's a 7th round pick 2 years from now....no worse than a 6th.

Gimme a break, folks poo-pooing the deal acting like we gave up a 2nd or some isht!

Mallet can only dream he could have a year as good as Schaub.

Depends on what year you talking about.

    Schaub confidence was/is shot!

Mallet is clay waiting to be molded with great mentor-ship for the past 3 years.

He isn't perfect and will make lots of mistakes, but he will be better than Schaub if given a chance.

    Write that down.

For sure, this is not a franchise saving pick, but some kind of QB change/upgrade had to be made and a good starter wasn't in the cards. I highly doubt Mallet would have been tabbed but for his previous experience with BOB's system and Cases' complete failure. It seems fatalistic to write it off as just a wasted 7th rd pick and in no way worth that little.

I wish we would have taken a QB sooner in the draft while we could, also. Texans just doing what they reasonably can from here... Picking up Mallet at almost no cost as a flyer was just that. Worth a shot; and if worst-comes-to-worst it, wont be less than a lateral move.

Is this true? I know he has been fading, but if only for kick returns it would be quite an upgrade.

I feel much better about bringing in Mallett than I ever did bringing in Orlovsky, Grossman, or Leinart.

Remii I told you and Bobbythegreat we were highly interested in Mallet. They wanted him before they got Fitzpatrick.

Look here gents we might have our franchise quarterback.

Well you were right about BOB having interest, hopefully it's not another Kubiak/Schaub situation. If Mallett is with the team next year then we should probably be worried.

    Not really.

RM is a backup QB and this is just insurance should Fitz get hurt. Otherwise we'd have to throw out Savage or Keenum and that would be even more of a disaster.

The opinion that throwing out Savage or Keenum would be "more of a disaster" is based on what exactly? It could easily be an even bigger disaster judging from Mallett's only pass attempts in an actual NFL game that counts. Also we run the risk of having BOB be blinded by the fact that Mallett is "his guy". I would agree that this could be Schaub 2.0 if only Mallett had that kind of upside.
