That's the only thing they've had success with this game. 2 big plays and 3 (?) PI penalties. Outside of those 5 plays, they've basically done nothing.
ABC will find someway to spin this in how it proves the SEC is even better. In reality, a spread (non SEC) offense comes into the conference and wrecks these "amazing" defenses.
I think the bigger story is O-line. They could be running power football and still walk all over them.
Lost all their momentum after that INT. Fans are out of it. What a horrible call. It's 3rd and 1. Sorry for posting so much. Just so excited football is back! Guessing they jump to #14 after the win. Right under LSU.
I was ready for some growing pains (read: loss(es)) with Kenny Hill under center. But man, this is a great start. #HillforHeisman2014
I agree that SEC defenses are vulnerable to spreads and are overrated in that regard. It's part of the reason I think Alabama is going to struggle going forward with more teams adopting the spread there. But A&M would be wrecking the Big12 too - Sumlin's just an incredible coach and is building an pretty powerful force there.
I didn't mean to imply that they wouldn't do well in the Big 12. Just think people don't take into account offensive philosophies when evaluating defenses.
As much as I like the Ol' Ball Coach and have consistently questioned Kevin Sumlin, this blowout came down to coaching more than anything else IMO. One guy had his team tuned up and ready to play while the other clearly dropped the ball. USC normally opens the season with a cream puff like ECU before playing Georgia. Spurrier's players were out of sync and not ready for a real team. That is totally on him. Props to Sumlin and Kenny Hill. I remember when his team beat Hightower for the Class 5A championship. Looks like he has the game to be very successful at the major college level.
