We have the best center and the best shooting guard in the league. Not to mention a possible future allstar in Jones. The only problem is Jones comes in and scores ten points in the first quarter and gets benched for the rest of the half. Getting a new coach would be twice as effective as signing a free agent.

As bad as the off season has been so far according to many (not me), getting rid of this dumpster coach would straight away make it a successful off season. Only possible reason to retain him was a long, long shot at Love. Love is gone so should McHale. Oh and we still haven't addressed the assistant coach and/or defensive specialist.....
It seems players love him based on his history as a great player and good person to be around than his coaching abilities. A bit similar to us liking Lin for his Insanity period and him being a humble, good kid than his playing abilities. It's all well, but at some point you have to do let a guy go if he does not perform.
No offense, but.... do you contribute anything to the community here other than constant bickering, complaining, and fire & brimstone about McHale??? I mean holy crap. Between you/McHale, and Jopatmc/Terrence _ones. I've seen obsession to the highest degree on the GARM, but nothing like you and McHale. I wouldn't be shocked if you have a poster of him in your bedroom that you've defaced and throw darts at constantly while in tears. ........ Look... the guy is a bottom 8 NBA coach in the league. Nobody is denying that. However Morey and co. are smart, logical human beings. There are reasons they weighed out this past off-season that led to the decision to go ahead and keep him another year. I can't tell you exactly what those reasons are because I'm not there in the office with them, but I can guarantee you they are there. He's going to be the Rockets coach for another season whether you like it or not so we just have to deal with it. Id ask respectfully to calm down, and lets pick up the conversation sometime later in the season to gauge whether it was best to keep continuity with the coaching staff this Summer or whether they should have, and will go in another direction come June of 2015.
If you're happy with mediocrity and having low expectations for a roster with 2 of the best players at their position and 2 of the top 10 players in the world, then so be it. Do you want to be at the receiving end of being out coached on an almost nightly basis? Some of us are not happy to waste another year of Harden and Howard's prime thanks to an incompetent head coach. You're now drinking the Morey Kool aid. He is a good to great GM, smart one by all means as you say but that does not mean that he is always right and we should simply accept what he does and just wait it out. The way Morey is treated out here by some is akin to a GM who has won multiple titles. Let's face it, Morey is and should be questioned for some of his decisions. Morey does have his faults and not firing McHale is definitely amongst the top.
I'm not, and I'm not. I was as critical as any of Morey's mistakes such as making Parsons a RFA, and the premature Lin-jaculation. Those were major mistakes IMO that he has to live with. Does it mean we should fire him??... No. Do I still think he makes his decisions with much thought, and weighs out risks such as "wasting another year of Harden and Howard"???... Yes. I do think that Morey has put thought into that decision like a normal logical human being would in his position. Does that mean I'm "drinking the Kool-Aid"??.. maybe, but I certainly hope we aren't judging folks based on that commentary. The only point I was making was that the decision was made, and obviously there were reasons behind it. Constantly b****ing, moaning, and complaining about it doesn't do anything good. Morey and Les obviously don't care what you think enough to alter their plans. Is anyone happy that the Rockets aren't a top 3 team from a talent & coaching perspective???... NO. Don't be so foolish to label people as being "accepting of mediocrity". There is a big difference in that, and logically realizing ... A. where you are, B. where you need to go, and C. HOW YOU NEED TO GET THERE. You're first mistake is assuming that people are too stupid to accurately assess A & B. You're second mistake is assuming that there is no direction for C. Please don't act like everyone, including Morey, is that naive and un-knowledgeable about their own situation. It is, what it is. The gamble for Bosh/Parsons didn't work out & Morey made some miscalculations. We are just going to have to see what happens next, and stop complaining about the same damn things that we can't change.
^This Bumping this thread just randomly to arbitrarily cry about McHale is stupid. Nobody cares about your temper tantrums.
The players seem to like McHale, and Morey seems to like McHale. The Rockets won 34 games in 2012, 45 games in 2013, and 54 games in 2014. As much as some Clutchfans want McHale gone, he's not going anywhere anytime soon. It's just a waste of time to focus on McHale at this point, he's going to be the coach this coming season. If the rockets do worse this next season than they did last season, and that's very possible after losing three of our top seven players, then McHale will probably be fired. Until that time, I'm not worrying about McHale.
Mchale is a good coach for a developing team, but he wont cut if we are trying to contend. Les knows this but doesn't want to pay two coaches at the same time. Mchale's contract won't be renewed, but he wont be fired earlier because then Les will have to pay the rest of his contract anyway. This will be his last season sine his contract runs out next summer. It's too bad that we missed out on lionel hollins. I'm not sure if there will be a great coach available next summer. maybe SVG?
Count me in as someone who doesn't have much confidence in McHale and wish they would of done a coaching change, but I agree that continuously bashing him in the GARM is pointless! The decision was made by the Rockets brass and now all we can do is hope they know something that we don't know or have yet to figure out. In Morey I semi-trust!... ....... ....... .......
I have a feeling McHale is still coaching the Rockets because Dwight can't handle a demanding coach telling him what to do. He couldn't handle playing with Kobe. How did Nash describe Kobe? "mother f..... a......"
Kobe couldn't handle playing with Dwight. Kobe is fine as long as he has subordinates like Pau Gasol, but when he has to deal with guys who are equals, he runs them out of town.
Agreed. I thought there was some news related to the Rockets coaching staff, but when I clicked on the thread and saw who bumped it I knew it was going to be a bunch of nothing.
But Les didn't have to pay two coaches simultaneously. The 4th year for McHale was a team option. He and Morey chose to bring him back by exercising that option. And yes in the process we did miss out on not only Hollins but also SVG who you mentioned(he signed with the Pistons). I sincerely hope barring an improbable run in the postseason this year, McHale is done with the Rockets after 2014-15. Cuz to bring him back beyond that would require a new multi-year contract(he ain't reupping for a single season). And there is no excuse whatsoever to give him that unless he earns it.
