suicide from crippling depression vs avoiding a prison sentence for stealing from citizens. somehow thinking its the easy way out.

Some of the very same people who criticize posters in the D&D for painting with a broad brush are doing the exact same thing here. I guess everyone has some hypocrisy in them.

I'm white, clean cut and I grew up and continue to be a member of the middle class. I don't break the law and am generally very courteous and polite to others. Despite all of that, I would estimate 75-80% of my encounters with the police have left me feeling as if I was disrespected as a human at best and the victim of some sort of police scam or abuse of power at worst.

I can only imagine how I would be treated if I fit one of the stereotypes cops tend to focus on.

Outside of my dealings with the police while they are on duty, I dated a woman whose father spent 30+ years with HPD (nice guy, actually) and have also had a few friends who were cops and, for the most part, they were not good people. In fact, one of the craziest, most dangerous and psychologically damaged people I have ever met went on to be a cop in the Houston area.

I'm pretty confident when I say, as a group, cops are some of the worst human beings I can think of.

If I have time later, I will share the story about a cop who almost shot me and then detained me all because she was an idiot when I was 16.

My first taste of law enforcement.

For the person that repped me with, "sounds like the cops never did anything wrong"...you're a moron.

I've had a couple of negative encounters with the police. When I was a teenager, the police gave me and my friend a very hard time because we were young and looked a certain way even though we weren't doing anything wrong. However, I known more than a few police officers socially, and the stories they told me made my stomach turn including beating on teenagers just because the kids gave the police a little bit of attitude. What made it worse is that they told the stories with a sense of pride; like it was a badge of honor.

Unfortunately, the police aren't held accountable for much. Generally the worst thing that happens to them when they break the law is that they are fired. This is where the distrust comes from.
