Do lots of business at the permit department and have suspected those people do this as well. Wasn't there another overtime issue with the firefighters taking off for hunt season?

Agreed, there is no way in HELL any officer should make $158,000 in overtime over a 3 year period. Someone else knows about this. This is a big deal and an outside source needs to investigate.

All officers involved should be forced to be all stolen wages, be terminated and face criminal charges.

it starts with Overtime fraud, then it goes to planting evidence and robbing cartels.

Not on a purely numerical basis, but possibly percentage-wise, like the portion of divorcees or cancer survivors. Of course River's the same guy who insinuated that cops "drug James Byrd" so I won't go down with this ship.

15% of cops are great men. The rest are scums of the earth.

And I'm sure a ton more pigs are pulling off this scheme, sucks for all of us.

Serious question...what makes you feel that way? HPD has over 5300 officers. You really think that 4500+ are scum of the earth?

There's no way to prove anyone's opinion about the breakdown. From my experiences, I can say that even the non-douchebag law enforcement people I know abuse their power from time-to-time for personal reasons (not necessarily personal gain). I suppose it's the power corrupts idea.

Dude can also believe that around 85% of people in general are scum, and cops aren't any different. Or perhaps cops are significantly more scummy than the average person bc of the high number of the power tripping douchbags that apply for the job. I wouldn't be surprised by anything. And you can't be certain that your belief in the overwhelming goodness of a vast majority of officers is absolutely the state of the world.

My cousin who is long time HPD is a racist judgmental a hole. So much so that I've thought of turning him in just based on the stuff he posts on Facebook.

Always talking about how much of a **** hole Houston is and how all the ghetto trash thug welfare Obama supporters need to be killed. It shocks me really.

so when they are charged it sounds like they will face some serious penalties, including some hard time.

enough to make a man take his own life. what a coward. he takes from the taxpayers like that and then his lawyer probably tells him how badly they are going to throw the book at him.

hope he didn't leave a family behind.

Things that make you go Hmmmmmm...
    And suicide or murder...????????

I also find it strange that the other officers named have been put on desk duty and haven't been suspended... And do you think they are the only ones...???

Just the same they are stealing from tax paying citizens... Those officers are thieves and it's more of them out there.

If he'd stolen $50k from a liquor store would he just be on desk duty?

I have some "friends" that are HPD...I've also had many experiences with them in the past, both personally and with work related stuff my sister used to do.

I clearly haven't been around all 5300...but at least a hundred or so. I was being generous with my 15%. Almost all of them abuse their power, are too uneducated to protect and serve, are very racist, or have some other characteristic that makes me want to shake my head.

Also, I grew up in Piney Point village. In high school, I'd go out to a friends house on the weekends and then drive home at like 1-2 am. No alcohol ever involved, just video games. But I'd be lying if I said I didn't get pulled over at least 20-25 times in high school. Was never issued one ticket, but was basically harassed on every occasion. They'd usually call back ups and try to scare the crap out of me. Looking back, I clearly see it, but at the time, I was 16-17 years old and had no idea what was going on. One of the occasions, 4 cop cars came, they made me get out of my car, walk down the street, and get on my stomach with my hands behind my head. They kept me there for 15 min, then told me to go home.

You're not a super-duper cousin. Racism sucks, but apprehending, detaining and transporting rapists, murderers, wife-beaters, drug-dealers, whores, vagrants, schizophrenics or just loud drunks at all hours of the day and night for weekends and years on end can make anyone jaded; obviously he's a little indiscreet using online media but consider his daily toll before vaporizing an entire life's work and whatever support he and his family get from it.

Obviously I cannot control or prove anyone's opinion, thus the reason I asked the question as to what made him come to that opinion. Based on his response, he has had some bad experiences with the police in the past.

The super duper part is me just blocking him, not turning him in... But i'm not going to lie I was torn over what was the right thing to do. Turn him in, and see his 25+ years on the force destroyed, or know that he has the power and the proclivity to use that power and harm others based on their race and or social standing. It wasn't an easy choice.

No. That's why they are "found" and are penalized with suspension and black-listed from other government agencies and are forced to pay fines or with jail time.
