Because people are afraid that their children might catch on to the satire about the way of the world.
Meh i can stream it on my own time. Screw commercial televise http://www.wtso.cc/video/vic/eng/season_1?lang=en
Just torrent all the episodes in perfect blue-ray condition. Or buy them. I personally don't see the need to go beyond season 10 though.
I first heard about the marathon from my kids, which is pretty weird. They're usually the last people to hear about anything. As for the original thread, I always thought the reputation of the show was undeserved because (at least in its heyday) it was pretty conservative despite its edge -- very pro-family, traditional values. The later seasons where it started to suck, it also happened to get more liberal. But at the time, I think Fox was trying to come up in the world by marketing to young people with a sort of hip, progressive branding. So having the approval of church leaders wouldn't be helping them.
Watching these old episodes made me realize The Simpson was once the greatest show on TV. 25 years of my life unfolding right there, don't take life for granted sort of thing, a moment to reflect of how once a simpler time during that run.
It's fallen off , but The Simpsons now is still a good show. But The Simpsons circa 92-98 was a masterpiece, grossly underrated IMO. I don't think it ever got the credit it deserved for quality of writing.
Family programs before were like the Cosby Show or Family Ties. This and Married With Children exposed a dysfunctional aspect in prime time that people took as offending "family values". Just like when Bush Sr. called out Murphy Brown for being a single mother. Different era then... /old
I still think the Simpsons are good just the too much technology killed it. About 200 new channels, dvr, netflix, video games ...
Man, watched a couple of season 2 episodes last night on FXX. The show was so good back then. The main difference.....FOX went for cheap laughs and made Homer go complete r****d. Early on, he was just a blue collar, middle class father. Kind of reminded me of Al Bundy, or better yet Clark Griswold. Watched the one where he thought he was going to die, and then the one where the TV breaks and they tell the story on how Homer and Marge met.
I watched South Park as a kid and turned out fine... But I understand why parents would never want their children to see the Persian night club episode.... Scissor me timber!
One of my favorite simpsons moments lol stupid sexy flanders lol <iframe src="//instagram.com/p/rYY8HGk3-p/embed/" width="612" height="710" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>
Seasons 1 thru 8 were awesome. The show started to jump the shark after the Frank grimes episode ending ...............
