If Morey's truly not "rushing it" when he already has Harden and Howard on the team, it better be because there are much better options available and not because he's still waiting for good deals to come to him.

2 year deal means the Rockets either have absolutely no confidence in Bledsoe's health, or they really believe in Durant.

I believe Howard and Harden are both signed for 3 more years (with Howard given a player option for the last year) and Trevor Ariza just signed for 4 years with the player option at the last year as well.

I don't blame Bledsoe for being wary of a shorter term contract. He's had his second major knee injury (the first being with the Clippers and the second with the Suns) so Morey (and the Suns) has every reason to be a concerned with handing a player, who's game is based on his elite athleticism, a max deal for the full 5 years if he ends up being re-injured again.

That being said though I wouldn't mind handing him a 4 year contract with a player option for the last year. It's not like Morey isn't a wizard when it comes to gaining the upper hand in trades and gathering picks. I'd rather take a chance on Bledsoe than rolling the dice on another lottery pick (which we may not get for a year or so if Anthony Davis and company end up doing well next year).

I don't see Bledsoe even considering a 2 year option. I think even the Suns will at least offer him 3 years. His knees are a probably the biggest factor in the hold up for longer years on his contract IMO. I'd rather have Bledsoe than Rajon Rondo, at least Bledsoe can somewhat shoot better at the 3. If Morey can pull off this trade losing Parsons/Lin wouldn't have been such a big loss.

Pretty sure every team in the league is trying to trade for him.

    Shocking news.

right, thx, i nearly forgot that one!

But as long as the pick is not used 4 a useful trade (aka Lowry-Trade) or the pick turns out to be as good or better than Asik I won't count it..

Sure it's a good pick (i think we get it if in top20 and not top3) but when I look at the picks we took in 2012, none has the caliber of Asik... of course we got Harde with the help of the 12th pick :)

time will tell & of course it's a good thing we don't have those poison pill contracts on our hands anymore...

People always seem to ignore context when they post on this forum..

When 2016 comes around and all those stars opt out and look for the mega contracts yet we are locked into contracts, how would you as a gm feel?

Morey is absolutely making the right call in not rushing on Bledsoe. If he doesn't make us a true contender (there are question marks all over him) then why lock in for 3+?

We need flexibility in 2016, or we win a championship in the next two years. That is Morey's thinking, period.

I'm glad everyone is getting giddy about the news of possibly getting either Bledsoe/Faried, but the BIG news for me was that McHale is finally being exposed for his lack of leadership skills! Harden has been exemplary WITH Team USA, showing that under the right coach, Harden can be MUCH more than a phenomenal offensive player! Getting Harden to commit fully on both sides of the court would essentially upgrade our team without doing a single trade! I hope Cyberx nailed it with the McHale info, and the wheels are turning!

    Get'r done Morey!

What do people here think a Bledsoe trade would look like?

This would be a huge upgrade over Parsons in terms of the team's play-making capabilities.

Well, this is far from "99%" it will happen, but it's something.

Flexibility is very important, but Bledsoe etc can also be used in a S/T to obtain a star. I admit I am a bit skeptical going after him, but a bit excited too.

We do need a new head coach for sure, however at the end of the day Harden will have to take personal responsibility for his growth.
I am cautiously optimistic about that.

Still sounds as though it's far from a sure thing. Also, with a deadline of October 1 (when Bledsoe would need to sign the QO, I believe), I don't expect much movement for some time, especially with the World Cup upcoming.

I just can't believe that the concept of Harden(and others on the team) becoming better players under the tutelage of a better coach never occurred to Morey before. Does he seriously think that having Phil Jackson around all those years made no difference in the development of Kobe Bryant? Would he have been the same player under Del Harris? How about Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili playing under Pop their entire careers?

Harden is 25. This is a crucial stage of his development. Do we want him to cement these bad habits of ISO-ball and lack of defense for the rest of his career or go from a budding superstar to a possible hall-of-famer? The potential is there for him to be a great player, but yes, it does matter who's instructing him from the sidelines and in practice.

Plowman said 7-10 days, so we'll soon see just how credible he is.

This^. Many seem quite focused on Ariza's single good season. We all HOPE he can replicate that and HOPE he doesn't duplicate his disastrous season playing for the Rockets. Some consideration should be given to his other 9 seasons. Hard to compare PG's and SF's but Beverly has been a consistently good defender (although with little offense) whereas Ariza has been a mixed bag over the course of his career.

DM wants Bledsoe for cheap, but he can really help Ariza. Otherwise, it might be difficult for him to reproduce his Washington success.
