I'm looking for ideas for a weekend trip. Leave Friday night, come back Monday during the day some time. I don't want to drive more than 8 hours. I live smack dab in the middle of Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland, so I actually have a decent amount of choices.

    Ideas include:

    NYC (never been)
Chicago (been there and loved it)
    Toronto
    Quebec
    Montreal
    Adirondacks
    Finger Lakes
    Atlantic City
    Poconos

    But I'm open to others.

This would be my wife and I. Best suggestion gets tons of rep.

Where do you live? Erie? Jamestown?

I don't see many towns in the middle of that triangle.

My vote would be NY if you had more than two days. But since youre driving, why not just go to the closest major destination on your list and enjoy the extra time saved from driving?

Wow, pretty close guess. Lived in Jamestown for five years or so, actually. Got out as soon as I could.

We've done the Niagara Falls thing many times, just wanted to try something different.

If you have never been to NYC then you go to NYC. Seems almost like a no brainer.

    2nd would be Montreal
3rd would be Quebec (some people would say this is 2)
    4th Toronto

Go to Gettysburg National Battlefield, then on to Shenandoah National Park. Hike Old Rag, go back through the Shenandoah Valley and float the Shenandoah River for a few hours. Some good places to stay and eat.

What about DC? We went to both NYC and DC this spring. Loved both. Also love going to Chicago. Maybe Montreal if none of those are a go.

    AC sucks.

I highly recommend NYC since you've never been. Montreal is nice, but nothing compared to New York (and is more of a city one lives in than visits in my opinion).

If you love Chicago, you'll love New York.

My vote would be for NYC. The wife and I just came back two weeks ago after bring there for 5 days. There's tons to see and do, if it's your first time going, take a bike ride through Central Park, it's amazing. Go to the top of the Empire State Building. I might get tagged on for that, but it's awesome to be up there and see the entire city. Hit up John's Pizzeria in mid-town west in Manhattan or have brunch at Norma's at the Le Parker Meredien hotel off 58th near Central Park.

My second choice would be Toronto, it's a beautiful city that I'm sad I haven't had a lot of time to explore (only spent 1 day there on a layover from a cancelled flight).

Hope you have a good one wherever you decide to go.

Montreal. Spend Sunday at Mont Royal for Tam Tam.

    Plus you can enjoy poutine.
