What are you talking about? Do you think we should lump drugs in as a natural cause of death? I'm not sure what your point is to be honest.
Absolutely true. I'm curious how many black individuals have tried to become a cop in Ferguson and been denied.
For poor drug infested communities... Yes, drugs have become a natural death especially for black males. Young black males who are raised in communities like that have a better chance of ending up in a grave or a jail cell which has become a natural occurrence... Graduating high school and going off to college is an unnatural occurrence for black males in that situation. Same goes for Hispanic/Mexican males as well. Just take Texas for example and look at the graves and the prison system... Full of drug related deaths and drug related crimes and a majority of which being Black and Hispanic males.
I don't think you understand the terms natural and unnatural. No matter how common drug related deaths are, drugs are not a natural cause of death. Your overall point is right in line with my point, even if you are using hyperbole and sort of ranting. Police on black teen violence is an issue that needs to be dealt with, but it is honestly the least of the problems facing a young black man in an impoverished community. It's just the only one that people like to rage against.
Because you know the cops that work for a city always represent the population demographics of a given area. Its terrible that this child lost his life, but if he was still living, his mother might have beat his a$$ for robbing a store. Finally, what are the prominent members of the black community doing to decrease deadly consequences when dealing with law enforcement? They always seem to come out in droves when things go bad, but opportunities exist when they children are alive. If a cop tells me to get down and put my hands up. I would immediately stop, listen, and I would plant my face and body on the floor with my arms fully exposed...Its time for members of the black community to encourage seminars and meetings, especially in impoverished areas of this country and educate young black children on how to deal effectively with police/law enforcement... We must find ways to decrease this senseless form of death.
One way would be to stop promoting the idea that cops are just going to execute you if you are black. Out of the millions of people who have an interaction with the police in a given year, way less than 1% end up dead. Somewhere around 400 police related deaths per year out of somewhere close to 40 million police interactions that are reported by participating jurisdictions. Numbers may off here or there because of flawed reporting techniques. I'm all for reducing that number weeding out bad cops, reducing the use of deadly force, etc., but another way to reduce that number is to stop pretending that every black kid who interacts with police has a good chance to get killed. That only encourages a rebellious attitude. If they BELIEVE the cops are out to kill them that will impact how they behave towards the police. Most police officers are normal human beings who have no desire to have an altercation of any kind with any person while at work. They want to put in their shift, do a mediocre job and get home to their dinner, wives and televisions. The idea that cops are looking to "assassinate" or "execute" black kids is just ridiculous and people need to stop promoting that idea.
I think if his momma beat his ass a little more often when he was growing up, he wouldn't be out robbing convenience stores and scuffling with police to begin with. Perhaps we need to show Chris Rock's old PSA to kids in school every year. http://youtu.be/P2plo4FOgIU
That's not really the most effective way to teach a child not to rob a store. My mother didn't beat me but I have never robbed a store. Being introduced to violence in your youth is more likely to make you violent than it is to scare you straight. Maybe you don't rob a store but you beat your kids instead and the violence continues until one generation is cut off by a bullet.
I completely and wholeheartedly agree with everything you said. There has always been a huge and pervasive mistrust among black americans about law enforcement. It may be very hard to change those perceptions, but there is no reason why people have to die when dealing with cops. If people just follow the instructions of cops, there wouldnt be needs for statistics like this one. This is where men like Al Sharpton, Quanell X, Rev Jackson can make an impact...teaching youth not to be stupid when faced with life or death consequences...
Every person is different, some can learn without it, some can't. I know examples of both. Also, there is a right and wrong way to physically discipline your kids, do it wrong and you are just setting up the kid to be violent themselves and there are a lot of terrible parents out there.
I don't know, it just doesn't seem logical a young cop with a family and a clean record would just go and execute a black kid for the hell of it.
Who knows exactly what happened but police are police, NOT judge, jury, and executioners. It's everyone's responsibility that the Criminal Justice System is not usurped by police or street justice. You could argue that's exactly what happens to minorities far too often.
dont tell Talib Kweli that, you will be called a racist and have flock of people filling up your notifications... haha but i totally agree, there is much more to this story than any of us know and we will probably never know
If you are raising a black male child in America you should be a whole lot more worried that he is going to get killed by another black male.
You ever thought the interaction between Cops and black people are completely different. Cops whole attitude and demeanor is different. Check this story out: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl...erguson-cops-were-caught-in-a-bloody-lie.html What EXACTLY was he suppose to do different? Rocket River
