If he was wearing those sandals with socks and was running and a cop feels he has to shoot him then that is one horrible unfit to be law enforcement cop. I've done the socks with sandals and running effectively is a very tough thing to do in those.
I don't know about you. But in my life, I never robbed somebody like that was shown in the security footage. Its not even the run of the mill thing that I normally see when I go over to the corner-store. Actually, I don't think I ever witness something like that at my local corner stores/bodegas. And I've lived in 3rd ward during my time at Univ of Houston. So out of all the hundreds/thousands of times I ran to the corner store, I've never see anything like that.. However, the kid who was shot just happened to be doing just that, that day. Just a major coincidence I guess... I guess grabbing store clerks by the collar and intimidating them is no big deal... Not saying the two events (robbery and shooting) are a direct-and-effect type of situation, nor is a box of swisher sweets deserving of getting shot, however the media portraying him as a good kid, high school graduate, college accepted, attending in a couple weeks- type of kid is misleading. Robbing a clerk like that, isn't just being an "obnoxious d-bag teenager". Oh yeah, I've got a greater idea.. Lets go wreck some more small businesses in protest for injustice!
wait, was there any more information related to the actual shooting? It's still vague surrounding the circumstances of how he was shot
The two events are separate, I don't know why or how he got shot and it might be something that should be prosecuted, but the robbery does show this guy's character and IMO he's not someone we should be mourning.
Exactly, the two events are mutually exclusive. And so is the fact that, personally in light of these new security footage, I can't help but strongly disagree with the media's portrayal of this kid. That doesn't mean I believe the kid deserved to get shot. Again, two separate things.
Are these really completely mutually exclusive? I thought the running story was these guys were stopped by the cop for walking in the street, which made it sound like a racist cop harassing some black kids started the whole thing. IF this is new information and video is true, the cop may have stopped him while doing his job responding to a robbery. How is that not relevant? It also would show that Brown did do something illegal and might want to avoid being caught. I'm failing to see how this would not be part of the string of events when the full report comes out on the shooting.
Well it all depends on what exactly happened leading up to him getting shot. Just because he robbed a convenience store and was running away from a cop doesn't mean he should be shot. Now if something crazy like him attacking the cop or whatever happened, that changes things, but we'll just have to wait till the story comes out.
So, the police chief just said in a news conference, that the officer did not stop Brown because he was a suspect in the robbery. He only stopped him because Brown was in the middle of the road. So, now we know that the two events were not connected. Edit: The events are not connected from the point of view of the officer. I suppose Brown could have thought he was being stopped because of the robbery, and that may have caused him to have acted differently. Seems like the police should have made it clear when they released the convenience store tape, that the police officer had no knowledge of Brown being a suspect in the robbery when he was stopped.
Are you f'ing kidding me? Benjamin Crump is on this case representing the Brown family? That idiot needs to be in jail for inciting violence in the Trayvon case, now he's doing the same damn thing again?
A little history of the Ferguson PD - maybe explains why there might be some history here that makes it more than just about this incident: http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl...erguson-cops-were-caught-in-a-bloody-lie.html On a tangential note, this might be the event that turns Rand Paul from a potential GOP primary winner to the one guy that can beat Hillary. He has an incredible ability to talk to different groups of people without dismissing them. Comments like "it is impossible for African-Americans not to feel like their government is particularly targeting them" is something you would not hear from any other major GOP voice. No idea what will happen or if some of his crazier views will come back to haunt him, but he's going to throw a wrench in the 2016 election in all sorts of fun and unique ways. And in an election against a fairly unlikeable Hillary, he's going to have the opportunity to win over all sorts of different groups of voters.
Rand Paul couldn't command enough of the Republican establishment or of the base to get nominated in the first place. He's more of a Republican than his dad Ron, but not enough of one to win the nomination. Too much Libertarian in his blood.
Bingo - it bolsters the officer's story that Brown came after him. Regardless, the explosive video from the convenience store is a game changer. Expect the marches for justice to lose steam. Most of middle America will have little sympathy for the kid we saw in the video. Still waiting to see pictures of the officer's swollen face.
He's also the only person in the party that has the ability to reasonably appeal to both the tea party side and the establishment side without alienating the other. I'd put him as the favorite to win the nomination right now. With the social conservative movement weakening to some extent with shifts in gay marriage views, the libertarian side of the party has more appeal and a bit less opposition. The real challenge is with foreign policy, but it remains to be seen how "hawkish" foreign policy will play in 2016 and whether that will be even be a top issue.
Oh don't get me wrong, I'd support a Rand Paul candidate, but I just think the Republicans would be more likely to nominate some ultra wealthy stiff white guy with a weird religion, ridiculous social policies, and irresponsible fiscal policies.
I would like to hear the officer's account of what happened. To me, it seems like the Trayvon incident is playing out all over again -- you get a (potentially) biased opinion and it shapes everybody's opinion of what happened...but is it accurate? As we all know, 12 year-old Hollister wearing Trayvon wasn't...
