    steddinotayto,

Tarantino was a "guest director" on Sin City. He only did one scene.

Anyway the answer is Michael Bay. #boxoffice

Thanks for the info! I knew it looked weird when I was doing my list using Wikipedia.

    And Michael Bay's filmography:

Movie so long it required 2 VHS Tapes
Will Smith's movie grab Part 2
Scarlett Johanssen and Obi Wan's adventure
    Childhood Ruining Movie
    Childhood Ruining Movie Part 2
    Childhood Ruining Movie Part 3
Pain and Gain (actually a pretty good movie)
    Childhood Ruining Movie Part 4

No idea who has been the best but a few I've liked and have been mostly consistent in this given time frame are:

    Bela Tarr
    Noah Baumbach
    Tarantino
Pedro Almodovar, but his last couple were meh
    and maybe Jean-Pierre Jeunet too.

Alexander Payne is one of my favorites.

    2013 Nebraska
    2011 The Descendants
    2004 Sideways
    2002 About Schmidt
    1999 Election

And you guys are really going to make me the first fanboy to mention Wes Anderson? Fine, Wes Anderson.

I haven't done much research, but I feel like every movie Nolan does is a good movie (uneducated). Maybe because the batman movies were brilliant?

You ought to be embarrassed to rank Tarantino ahead of the Coen Brothers.

I didn't bring him up despite being one of his biggest fans simply because his movies are all ....I don't know how to describe it. It's not "the same" but it doesn't stray too far in terms of visuals or story telling. To make a Wes Anderson movie you need:

    1. Young attractive actress portraying a very independent yet sensitive character
    2. An old actor playing the role of a man that has went through life, experiencing nothing, only to find out near the end what his life really meant
    3. A lovesick protagonist that screams help
    4. A dynamite backdrop
    5. Quirky music

He's great but you don't see Anderson trying to stray too far from his formula.

    Pound for pound The Coens.

    Alfonso Cuarón
    Y Tu Mamá También
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
    Children of Men
    Gravity

    PTA has been good.
    Magnolia
    Punch Drunk Love
    TWBB
    The Master

Fincher, Aronofsky, to a lesser extent Tarantino. Michael Hanke over in Europe gets the top prize. His films might be a bit to euro/artsy. In Asia for me it's Johnnie To.

P Jackson voters must be Tolkien fanboys because that fat f-ck has sucked at anything not named Tolkien. Hell, even this LOTR are aging badly.

Someone has been left out of the conversation, and the fellow is a sensational director. Wes Anderson! I hated to leave off 1998's Rushmore and 1996's Bottle Rocket, but there you are. I love his stuff. Not saying he was the best over the last 14 years, but the guy is brilliant.

    The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)

    Moonrise Kingdom (2012)

    Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)

    The Darjeeling Limited (2007)

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004)

    The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)

Let me throw a curveball in here.. Don't think his body of work would qualify him as the best but definitely deserves to be in the room.

    Brad Bird:

    Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol
    Ratatouille
    The Incredibles
    Iron Giant(1999 but close enough)

    1. Sofia Coppola

I'd also rank Jane Campion up there with any director based on her body of work. She is a truly original director.
