Are you saying that you are not a participant in this type of polarized thought, that you are somehow free from groupthink? I'm glad to know that somebody is unbiased and without rhetoric.
I think he made some pretty solid and fair points. I also didn't see anywhere in his post where he stated that he was unbiased. My generation is growing up in a world of Fox News vs. MSNBC, Drudge Report vs. Media Matters and an extremely polarized political climate. Finding unfiltered and un"spun" news on TV and even the internet is increasingly difficult. Most of the easily accessible and popular news sources have agendas. Young people are generally very impressionable and malleable and will listen to their authority figures and the media. I find myself caught up in logical fallacies and subscribing to confirmation bias very often due to this and try and force myself to reevaluate my stances objectively and with empathy. Those who care little about current affairs and politics are less likely to do so and will be easily led by their news agency that matches their political persuasion.
I agree that he made some solid points and I also agree with most of them and yours as well. I just don't understand why he needed to end his post with a polarizing comment. (Just like any form of media tho, I would not have participated in the conversation without that polarizing comment. His comment sold my click.) I personally am tired of the fact that the news media is no longer in the news business. I'm sure it has always been that way to some degree but I think the current level is to the point where useful information is difficult to find. Nothing is about facts anymore it is about which spin on a situation will garner the most clicks/views.
No, I have one better- and your user name provides the guidance.... First, we LOL at your obviously slanted decisions (gee, let's see, hmm, maybe somewhere I can find a racist conservative comment????) Then, we close our eyes, count; 1...2...3.. and make you go away.
No But I was born and raised within the community that produced Louie Gohmert and yet I am not of his ilk, so somehow I broke out of my culture. My point was that the sides are drawn today without much middle ground, there is not much nuance, honor, statesmanship or compromise examples for young people to experience and learn from. The divide has us identifying with liberal or conservative more and less that as Americans, of high minded democratic principles. I wonder if that divide will devolve into civil conflict like we see in a lot of the rest of the world. (of course that's not really true, politics have always been dirty and we had our own civil war and blatant discrimination)
