I'd suggest that everyone go through the league and look at teams that: a) have a need at PG and/or SG b) have assets to trade c) are willing to spend what it will take to keep Dragic next year The list is very, very small. 3 to 4 teams at most. And Houston is on that list.
If the market for a guard like Dragic is very, very small then why would the Suns trade him? Their chances to re-sign him next year are very good.
i'm guessing that's what your source is saying? Considering they went after Lebron and Melo, i think it's safe to say they are trying the Morey approach going forward. This is why they're saying they still plan to make the playoffs, etc...it's also why it would make sense to trade Goran for the "scraps" people keep talking about. Fans want to play let's trade basketball cards, but in the NBA there's more to it than trading faces and names. They're collecting assets. Fans seem to forget that trading Lowry for a lottery pick was what got us Harden. Phoenix has been paying attention.
even with those pgs missing the season that still shouldn't take anything away from dragic. he took that team without bledsoe half the season to within a game of making the playoffs in the west. A 48 win season for that team is pretty impressive with dragic leading the way. overrated? i dont think so. hes worked damn hard for what hes accomplished so far.
Why? He hasn't said anything one way or the other. His source doubts we have anything Phoenix wants, but his source probably doesn't have our "list of assets" memorized as we do, nor will the source think, "Well, if Morey puts together a three-team deal, he could swing it, I guess." "Doubt" isn't "definite". Although I'm curious as to what Phoenix would take for Goran. If anything.
No. Don't have any sources in PHX. Just reading between the lines. I think they want to make a run at LaMarcus.
I think he'd be the better bet for them, although part of me wonders if the Knicks will lead a hard charge as well.
Sure their chances are good to keep him........if they are willing to pay him. And if they pay him, do you honestly believe he's good enough to be the best player on a championship team? Don't lose the forest for the trees....the goal is to win a championship. Also, basketballholic pointed this out.......it's not necessarily whether Houston has what PHX wants....it's if Houston has enough to get a player that PHX wants (3 team deal).
for whoever rep-asked I dont know if Basketballholic has a source or sources, but i'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt..
LMA's outlook on playing in Portland has changed with the emergence of Lillard and their role players. But at the same time, he's definitely going to take advantage of his free agency, and he has to look at his team and realize they're potentially a 4 or 5 seed in the west. I have to image that Morey is weighing giving up assets for a PG (where, as good as Dragic is, he's still not a top 5 PG) when he could make a play for one of the top PFs.
You may be right, but lets look at the teams that would and wouldn’t likely be interested in a trade for Dragic: Boston: They have Rondo and Smart, maybe but probably not Philadelphia: Doubt it, tank city Toronto: Just resigned Lowry, so no Chicago: Nope Cleveland: Nope Indiana: tried and failed Orlando: Possibly, but just drafted/traded for Elfrid Payton Washington: Nope Memphis: Maybe, but not sure NO: Probably not SA: No Denver: Probably not Minny: No Portland: No GS: Nope LAC: Nope That leaves: Brooklyn, NY, Detroit, Milwaukee, ATL, Cha, Miami, Dallas, Houston, LAL, Utah, and Sacramento. Still think the Rockets can’t offer Pheonix the best trade for Dragic? Again, I’m not saying that this will happen. But it isn’t asinine to think that it may.
We've lost with aces before. Remember that time we thought we'd backed Orlando into the corner and their Idiot GM traded Dwight to the Lakers for the pupu platter highlighted by Arron Afflalo? The longer this drags out the more likely we won't be satisfied with the outcome. Either another team will pony up more at the last second, or Phoenix will make a move just because they don't want to deal with Morey (like last time). I have no hope to glean from this thread. We'll be a great team without Dragic.
That has been my sense watching this whole thing. I think they are trying to low ball Bledsoe so that they can afford their dual PG lineup, or failing that, sign and trade Bledsoe for assets that can further their plans. I think Dragic is harder for them to want to trade and harder for them to actually get fair value for.
Carl, please stop teasing Plowman on his name. He was f/k/a as Hardwood and Dr. Strangelove, so he may be sensitive to these things.
Though I just posted to the contrary, the fact that Indiana made an offer for Dragic means that other teams think he could be in play too. So maybe I am wrong and he is actually on the block.
