Greg Monroe signs qualifying offer; to become free agent next offseason

    The Qualifying offer is rescinded, but he still remains a RFA (so he has even less leverage) and then if he doesn't sign with anyone they can offer the QO again next offseason.

    IIRC, the qualifying offer is only automatically rescinded on March 1st. By that time he won't be able to sign with any team.

    if the QO is rescinded by the team before that, then Monroe becomes a RFA and he would be able to sign with anyone he wants without worrying about piston matching

    It expires on october 1 unless the team chooses to extend it, note that's not a withdrawal, so he would stay a RFA, only no QO.

    Not in this case. PHX is $21 million under the cap.
