I seem to remember some guys on the radio and/or TV who attend training camp every day saying that Case just looks lost with the new offense.
I disagree. Unless Fitz manages to finally learn how to protect the ball, something he's never done well in his entire career, Case is a lot better.
Yup, and the same people were talking about how good Fitz looked in camp, yet we saw exactly the opposite in the first preseason game.
Why not Case? Because he's not very good? (but neither are any of the other QBs) Did you miss last year? 0-8? (But but but the team quit! But but but the team's stars were injured! But but but his coach had a heart attack on the field! But but but his coach was holding him back! But but but this! But but but that!) By most accounts, everything he struggled with last year, he's still struggling with. http://goo.gl/pNNAkF
I could make a statistical case for it, Fitz has a career INT% of 3.6%, Case's is 2.4%. This season, give me the guy who can protect the ball over the gunslinger of questionable talent.
C'mon man, you're better than that. Are you judging him based on win loss record? Really? Do you honestly believe that we'd have done better with Fitz last year? The team DID quit, the team WAS missing numerous key players, the O line WAS a joke....You can't just brush over those things.
Nope, judging him on reports like those above, where he continues to struggle and looks like the Case of last year. Hey, if the Texans want another number one pick, go with Keenum! Deliver Houston another number one pick!
Even if he's "struggling" if he's not turning the ball over like Fitz, we'd be in a much better position to win games with him there. Anyway, we'll see what happens, but I'd hope our new head coach would have the sense to bench Fitz if he keeps throwing picks.
You're comparing mediocrity to slightly less mediocrity. If the benchmark for case is to be better than fitz then we are in trouble. I am rooting for case because I want a good QB but I thought be was bad last year and I don't think he will be any better this time around. I hope I'm wrong.
Neither Fitz or Keenum are the long term solution at QB, but I'd rather go with the better of the two and IMO Keenum protects the ball better thus is the better QB for this team. I know there are issues with his fit in BOB's scheme, but I don't think an interception machine really fits all that well either.
well, Schaub was criticized for the same things, Schaub was criticized because he was a statue, and he was sacked a lot, but Case started playing, and now everybody realized it was the O-line. in 2010, when the texans got to 6-10, people say that Schaub wasnt playing well, that he wasnt clutch, etc, but you had to look we had the worst defense, and the kicker also missed some close FGs. people complained that when the blitz was coming, he threw it out of bounds, losing 0 yards, but with Case, he run backwards and was sacked 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage. Disclaimer: Schaub had to go, when a new coach enters a team, wants to pick his own QB, so Schaub time here, was done. and also I think Case could get better, with a year of playing in the NFL.
Fitzpatrick is known for erratic, but overall he does have more TD's thrown than picks. He'll bounce back with some better games in the preseason and win the starters role. Keenum will get cut because he's not a BOB guy. Savage will be 3rd on the depth chart as the project QB. Definitely see them bringing in a vet that gets cut from someone else's team in training camp to be the #2.
I heard on the radio this morning that we are 1st on the waiver wire once teams start cutting guys. Can anyone confirm? If so, I wouldn't be surprised if we brought in another QB before the end of training camp.
I have trouble judging Case from last year because it was obvious they went into full on tank mode a few games after he got the nod. He was supposed to lose. McNair wanted to get Clowny and he was done with Kubes so he said tank. That's why Rick Smith still has a job. Why else would you keep someone that was complicit to that terrible a season?
I don't see them doing this unless its for a guy they just can't pass up or who already knows the system. I figured if they are going to bring in another QB, they would have done it during training camp so he can get acclimated to with team/system. Because during the season, there is little, if any practice time for a new guy to learn the system. Yes, because we were the worst team last year, we get #1 waiver priority until Week 4 for something like that.
I don't care; he has more interceptions than games - 66 in 54 starts plus 22 fumbles. As much as I was ready to move on... I'm starting to wonder if Schaub wouldn't have been the better stop gap....
