Random question: Before Moran, does anybody know who the highest drafted player to be flipped within the same amount of time as him was?
One of the things about the tandem system, he got pulled after 5. He had retired 6 straight batters, he struck out the side, all swinging in the 5th. If it had been a normal start he could have gone another inning or 2. Maybe he gets roughed up in those extra innings, maybe not, we don't know. This is the same story with his first start at CC and his last start in Lancaster, he appeared to be going strong but got pulled. Obviously you would prefer he dominate outright like a #1 pick should, but I agree these are positive outings.
Brady Aiken. He was flipped to a Junior College team for 6 million in savings and the number 2 pick in the draft next year.
Trevor Bauer was taken #3 in 2011, and was traded in December 2012. Drew Pomeranz was taken #5 in 2010, and traded July 30th 2011 as a PTBNL in the Ubaldo Jiminez trade.
But isn't it easier to just check a box score and see 4 ER given up in 5 innings, and assume he's terrible? I think that's how most people are approaching him, anyway.
We've always had whiners, every city does. But sand in vagina syndrome seems to be running rampant across the entire sporting landscape in Houston right now. I've noticed it for a while, but after watching the nuclear meltdown after the Texans first preseason game it was almost comedy. The number of people in town who can take a step back and make an objective observation is scary low right now. As for the Astros, who frankly deserve derision much more so than the other 2 franchises, everybody except a few of us loyalists have simply decided to crap on everything they can. We should have done that, we should have done this, Jim Crane is solely responsible for this (which is wildy innaccurate to anybody that pays attention). Appel seems to be catching the brunt of it as far as players are concerned. There seems to be a desire for him to fail, you can sense the glee of some posters when he has a bad outing, and silence when he has a good one.
@FullCircleSM: Another impressive outing by @musgrove23Stros for the @ValleyCats: 6.2IP, 2H, 0R, 1BB, 5K's! Promotion time??
I dunno why but I sorta saw this response coming. We're getting to the point in the season where any good performance is immediately followed by the promotion question.
Eh, I think he deserves a promotion. His ERA is 3.20 (FIP of 3.04*), 54/9 K/BB, and he draws a lot of groundouts; before the game it was 51.6%. I wouldn't mind seeing what he can do in Low-A.
Not trying to be a jerk, but when you make posts like this, would you mind adding some stats so we can see what you're talking about?

Another bad outing for Thurman and Emmanuel tonight. Top 3 picks in the last year's draft are having rough seasons.
