The 1st pre-season game with an entire new coaching staff and QB is NOT a representation of the talent. Everyone who thinks this game means something is just being GARMish. However, I still think this is a 5 win team. I just don't look at tonight as proof of that.
I think it's "kind of" a representation of the talent (or lack thereof) because this team went 2-14 last season and Fitzpatrick has sucked for most of his career. But can't really make an assessment until all the players are on the field. Nowhere to go but up.
The score definitely doesn't matter. That Fitzpatrick couldn't do anything against 2nd stringers is a little concerning.
Before the end of the preseason, we will trade for Mallett, IMO ... I know he wasn't 'awesome' against the Redskins, but that's part of the plan. So we don't have to give up a high draft pick ... Bill O'Brien will get 'his QB' ... a QB he can trust and knows his playbook.
No one here cares that we lost. It's the manner in which we lost. Their 2nd and 3rd string destroyed us. So, from that standpoint, this was a colossal embarrassment.
Yeah but if the tables were turned and we won 32-0, every one would be talking about how great we looked and could be in the regular season. It means a little something being that how we played out there.
completely agreed...If the Texans won 32-0 we'd all feel good about and take heart that there had been real changes after losing 14 in a row. and I promise you this "effort" doesn't mean nothing to ownership, management and the coaching staff. that first teamers couldn't perform against 2nd and 3rd teamers certainly isn't a good sign.
Did not watch and glad I missed this. Wow! 0 for 8 3rd down conversions 5 penalty in a roll to start 2nd half. Sure this is preseason and score doesn't count but style does. The way this squad is playing is worst looking than last year and that's saying something. Friz not good. Case not much better. Savage not enough data but will that a hit. Defense nonexistence But it's only 1st pre season so hope is there but he be lightyears away. Will that miracle but weirder thinks has happen before....
But at the same time, that "progress" could mean nothing once the real games start. And likewise, this "embarrassment" may play no impact on what this team actually does when the games count (although I understand that it would have been nice to look somewhat competent out there, and some of the QB throws were just downright ghastly... the penalties were atrocious.... and the secondary looks like they've never played in a secondary before). I said it earlier, but if this coaching staff is truly a game-plan/game-to-game/scheme the opponent as much as they say they are.... its only logical that they won't have much to showcase or feature in pre-season games where there is no game-planning whatsoever. On the flip-side, teams like Kubiak's, that rely on a set script no matter who the opponent, will always look "organized" and "composed", especially in the pre-season.
