Kevin Martin was trash and he wasn't lefty.

How can you miss Dmo & TJones...
also apparently Dwight is a lefty, just shoots right handed after he broke his wrist or something in HS.

I wonder how Kostas will react if Kevin McHale asked him to bring more juice on the court.

Why not? We want capspace next offseason, so we can get rid of him then without any problem. If we don't need the capspace and he is actually good, we can just take the option and extend him one more year. If we want to keep him after that, he is a restricted FA. The only downside really is, that his qualifying offer would be quite high - but that is only a downside if he is worth a little less than his qualifying offer, which would mean it wouldn't really hurt to lose him.

We had to get a high initial salary because of his buyout (otherwise it would've made no sense for him to come here). But that doesn't hurt us a bit - if anything he is a midsized expiriing contract. Very tradeable.

I thought that after last Summer that other guy was working on his 3s that he would have a better arc on his shot but as last season progress his shot went back to a line drive shot. I don't know if that was because he was tired towards the end of the season or because of the heavy minutes played or he just stop trying to arc the shot.

He did very well against France last night. I don't know if it was this deal and he thought people's eyes were on him, but he seemed more dedicated and more aggressive in offence. Still mostly stuck to his off boal movement and 3-D.

I thought, although I didn't pay much attention, that while on the floor he was guarding Batum.

So, this guy is making almost the full MLE next year, which means if he's not in the rotation from the get-go it's a colossal waste of a signing. Does anyone think that Kevin is going to hand this guy a spot in his rotation based on his contract?

It comes back to when the guarantee date for the 2nd year is; if it's somewhere late in October, or even through January 10th, there's a massive incentive for Papanikolau to negotiate with the Rockets on a long-term extension, since he could easily be frozen out of the big money European leagues if he gets cut during training camp. Honestly, guys like Boozer and Parsons are more of the exception than the rule when it comes to working with a team on somewhat shady opt-opt/extensions. I believe that the Rockets can withdraw an outstanding qualifying offer up to July 23rd, so there isn't that much worry that that they'll get stuck with a player they don't want like with qualifying offers in baseball. If he's even borderline worth it, they could just suck up the cost and pay him the $6M, it's not like that extra $1.4M is going to affect them at all next year anyway when it comes to spending up to the tax.

To me, it looks like the Rockets did Papanikolau a favor by basically giving him the same deal they had initially offered (full bi-annual exception) as a 1-year deal. Ideally that would foster some goodwill when next year comes up.

Depends on whether the numbers are clear. ;)

Rumor is that they promised a rotation spot in order to get K-Papa to sign.

But rumor is also that Morey never promises such things.

But rumor is also that Ariza was promised to have a big role when he signed in 2009 (and we all know how it ended).

So it depends on which rumor you believe. I tend to believe that Morey will not force the coach to play any player. What he can do is trade the player who is in front of the guy in the rotation. (Think Brooks, Patterson)

Signing an unproven guy for so much is a gamble. But the contract is short and it's Les's money. Morey still has not sacrificed his precious flexibility. So it's not that big a gamble within Morey's MO.

FYI, Inventor of Pap Smear test was named Papanikolaou, which is why it is named so.

Does K-Papa have a higher ceiling than Omri Casspi? Draftexpress lists him as the ceiling, although this was 2 years ago and Papa was 22 at the time. He must have more potential than Casspi or Delfino due to his age and defensive skill, but shooting 36% from the international 3 is not impressive. I'm excited about the signing--mostly interested in which role players out of Canaan/Daniels/Papanikolaou/Motiejunas break out this year (I'm not confident about Johnson or Capela getting many minutes this year). We have a very young team.

If Clyde Drexler finds a way to fit in the noun (or verb) "smear" in the same sentence as Papanikolaou, just remember that I called it on this thread.
