    Friend keeps pushing me to play this game. He seems to think I'd really enjoy it. What does Clutchfans think?

    What would you compare it to? What's it like. He's always just like, "Bro, you'll dig this," and he never tells me anything about it.

    Have you played League of Legends? A guy made Dota 1 as a mod on WC3, he quit and some other guys took over. I think a couple of them left and they created LoL. LoL is a noob friendlier version of Dota 2. Dota 2 community is pretty awful to be honest. People will flame you constantly if you're bad, decent or if you make one mistake. A lot of the gamers there take it seriously. If you're willing to play through the tutorials and learn every single hero, you'll be able to play decent or even get good. If you have a group of friends (four) to form a team of five, they could cover your weaknesses and ease you into the game.

    there's no other game to compare it to really. league of legends is easier yes, but you only get a certain amount of heroes when you start and you have to buy others if you want to play them. In dota, you get all the heroes from the beginning. Hardest part is going to be learning the heroes and getting the flow of the game. If you have other friends that play it and are good, just try it out. I only play because my friends play it but I played back when dota 1 was a mod on wc3

    heroes of newerth, LoL and DOTA are all pretty similar. kinda hard to describe the game, but it's a 5v5 game that heavily relies on teamwork. there are 3 lanes with towers that each side is trying to destroy to push into the opponents base. you win by destroying their base. when you kill units and heroes you gain experience and level your hero up.

    LoL is more teamwork oriented than DOTA. if a hero in dota gets too fed (strong) he can lead his team to victory.

    it's a tug of war type of game.... except your pushing instead of pulling

    LoL is the same way. It's pretty toxic, especially in "ranked" mode, and especially in "Bronze," the lowest tier of ranked.

    I don't know how easy it is to make it out of the low tiers in DotA / 2, but it's damn near impossible in LoL.

    you need a good computer to run Dota 2 at good settings

    Dota's learning curve is high though, but if you have played moba before it's alright, just get some friends to guide you throuugh the basics

    I was trying to get into it since it seems fun but the learning curve is too steep and I don't have time for that anymore. Also reason why I stopped playing WoW after 7 years.

    If it's damn near impossible for you in LoL then it's gonna be impossible for you in Dota2. It's common knowledge between both communities (although LoL players have to bite their tongues before admitting it) that the degree of skill needed in Dota2 > LOL. It has many more features and depths, such as river disadvantages, uphill disadvantages, the ability to get rid of trees, smoke of deceit, illusions, bashes, runes, tower aggro, juking, bottle crowing... so many tips & tricks. It's just got a crazy big featureset and entirely unique heroes with unique playstyles.

    @OP

    As others here have already mentioned, Dota2 has a really steep curve. I suggest playing with a stack of friends so you won't get bashed by teammates in case you ***** up. But once you get the hang of it, it can get pretty addictive. Been playing Dota for 8 years since WC3 days and though it doesn't hold the appeal it once had, I still miss it enough to play it from time to time. Have fun!
