I've supported the Rockets looking into Marion, but this logic is just silly. It doesn't matter what he was a few years ago. It's about what he is now, which certainly isn't close to All-Star level.
Scouting report and highlights remind me a bit of Parsons....hmmm... I also think its cool that he's been teammates with current and former Rockets: Pat Beverley, Joey Dorsey, and for DaDakota, Vassilis Spanoulis.
Hey maybe Pheonix really likes this kid lol. I think until Morey can aquire his third star everyone not named Howard or Harden is trade bait unfortunately. Once he gets his big 3 then we probably won't see that much player turnover because at the moment I believe both TJ and DMO are the most tenured rockets on this team lol. The Spurs can afford to keep their roster the same, they already have had their core big 3 for quite some time, so for them familiarity is the new normal. It still takes a couple of years for your core to develop chemistry no matter what anyone says and the fact that both Howard and Harden have one year together under their belt will alone make the rockets a better team this upcoming season IMO.
According to what Feign says in the chronicle, Pap is going to compete with TJ and DMO for the 4 spot if I didnt read it wrong.
Or maybe start Pap and sandwich him between Howard and Ariza with TJ coming off the bench and DMO backing Howard.
1 year rental with up side. Given how thin the FA market is right now, I don't see it as a problematic move. I suspect he's a bit overpaid, however to pry the guy away on a 1 year deal probably required a premium. And worst comes to worst, usable as a trade piece as a 1 year non-guaranteed contract at the end of the season.
If he comes off the bench, my guess is he plays the 3. If he plays with the starters, he plays the 4. He's a natural small ball 4. All we need him to do is play good team defense, rebound at a decent level, and hit 3s. That's it.
I can't possibly present an educated vote to this poll. I've never seen the guy play. I do get the sense this was a "last resort" sort of move. When they drafted this guy, they did so because they knew they could store him in Europe and he wouldn't affect their ability to go get the players they really wanted.
For anyone saying that the contract is too high for a "2nd round pick", he was a second round STASH pick two years ago. The kid is definitely a first round talent.
Well they were trying to sign him a while ago but couldn't come to an agreement. Unless they were on their last resort a month ago..
I could see him as a stretch 4 along with Howard, but not as a starter unless he improves as a rebounder.
