I realize that, but the prior reports were that the Rockets were unwilling to use up their MLE for him. Perhaps the other options that they were considering did not materialize, so that opened up things for this deal. Regardless, I'm really feeling optimistic about the chances of him and Dorsey making an impact, though I really have no reason to be.
Compared to the other contracts being handed out for the MLE this offseason, this seems reasonable. Young wing player who can shoot 3s and play some defense? That's a pretty rare and valuable commodity. Anthony Morrow signed for 3yr/10mil and he probably represent the floor for what Pap can be.
For those who don't know, Papanikolaou is available on NBA 2K with Olympiacos Piraeus and can be assigned to the Rockets. He's a beast. He can really shoot it and plays great defense. I now fully support this move.
I like this way better than Marion or anything else that was left. He gives us depth with 3pt range and defense, plus he's characterized as a winner. As for a nickname, I like to keep it simple--KP
Stoked that we could work something out with Papanikolaou finally. This squad is looking to have endless hustle and an edge that it sorely needed last year.
How is it assumed this dude can play defense on the nba level? I can't wait to see this guy try to hold the average small forward the nba.
Lots of scouting? He's not athletic enough to guard your LeBrons and Durants and so on but he is a smart fundamentals defender and Ariza will likely be handling the tough assignments.
did everyone just copy and paste their comments form when we signed pat bev from europe? why all the negativity towards morey for this move, the 4.8 seems alot but its no difference than offering him something around 3 million + it proberbly allowed us to get the 2nd year as a team option instead of player or fully guaranteed. ill back morey in just like i did with bev when i had no idea who he was but know hes doing whats best for this team moving forward
I gotta see it. I want to see if he even gets close to Toni Kukoc level... I'm hearing the hype but if he is all what scouts say he is defensively I'd be shocked honestly. Nba is just a whole different level when it comes to playing D.
Man Pat Bev grew up playing street ball in the hood streets of Chicago and played against D. Rose in the state championship in high school. Bev is a different situation... I'd say this guy we talking about now is a unknown but like Bev he will have to prove himself and he deserves that chance at least.
We potentially could have a full euro league line up on the floor if we get a sg with euro league experience. Lungless Daniels has played in the euro league Bev/Daniel/kap/Dorsey/dmo That might win the euro league championships???
So we aren't bringing in Gentile? Morey did say both Johnson and Gentile could come in and crack a rotation.
I have to say this - don't mistake a texture map that some graphics designer made combined with some ratings numbers that some guy who's only seen YouTube highlights made up for having anything to do with the real human being. Not trying to talk down to you. I know it's easy to do and I think those programmers wield way more power to shape public perception than they should. I heard one of the weekday hosts on 610 the other day say that he keeps up to date on who the good players are around the NFL by playing Madden, and I almost threw up. If I were an agent, I'd be bribing the hell out of the programmers to get my clients' ratings jacked up.
Are people really busting Morey's chops over this? Why? Hell, I've been hoping we'd bring over one of our Euro stashes for a long time. If he's simply solid and has some potential, it's a great move, in my opinion. Why not see how he looks actually playing for the Rocks before assaulting Daryl?
