I don't think he's too bothered by that. Probably thinks he would have made the squad regardless.

One recent example would be Paul George.

Due to Paul George's injury, his salary for this coming season is only $9.5 million instead of $15.9 million.

That's not half, but close to it.

Also, sponsors put stipulation on long term contracts.

For example, Damian Lillard's $100 million contract.

He needs to meet certain contingency in order to acquire the entire amount.

If he ends up getting a career ending injury, there's no way to get the full amount stated in the contract.

George is getting the full $15.9M. It's just a matter of the Pacers recovering a portion of that from an insurance company.

Teams only carry 12 players for international competition. So It's still too early to tell whether Parsons makes it or not.

What is it with USA Basketball and the NBA?

You never see this crap in the FIFA World Cup. Every Football/Soccer player does what he can to represent his country. Same could be said for all the other Nations when it comes to FIBA, it's just the US.

I assume this has to do with the fact that there is so much competition in FIFA where so many nations are good and anyone can win.
In the case of FIBA, USA is just the constant favourite and clearly the best nation in the world by a large margin. The Argentina win a few years ago was an anomaly. Maybe USA Basketball and the players involved just feel they can sit out and USA will still win.

So much for the comments in the PG thread about World Cup play improves a player's self-marketing recognition -- Under Armour presumably disagrees, and will give KD more money not to play.

Durant was scared of the wolves so he left the woods.

The math is different for different guys at different stages of their careers. For an up-and-coming guy who isn't widely known yet, the World Cup may be a good stage to get some recognition. For a guy like Durant in 2014, this competition probably doesn't make him more popular.

The math may also be different for the Olympics, which, at least in the US, seems to generate more publicity.
