Earlier this week, I was applying for a job and they requested my drivers license and my social security card... problem was, I always keep it at home until I really need it, so I got sent all the way home to come back the next day with it. Seeing how easy it is to steal anybody social security nowadays doesn't take too long if a person really wants it. Also getting my wallet lost or stolen is very slim.

Applying for a job? You do not have to supply your social security card(or other approved form of identity verification) until you have the job along with your I-9.

No I don't. I don't actually have a Social Security Card or any papers for that matter.

Considering I've only needed it once in my entire life, absolutely not.

I believe on the back of the card it tells you that you shouldn't keep it on you.

I hope so too. I keep mine in a fireproof safe and you're asking if we carry it around in our wallets!?

And what employer asks for a SS card in an application? A passport should suffice as an alternative form of ID.

If they don't want us to keep in our wallet then why do they put it in card form? If we're supposed to keep it safe at home, why not make it just an official document on a normal sized piece of paper?

I don't keep mine in my wallet.
