i dont know about irving, but on irvington near calvacade there is a place called aguas calientes, really good
THAT, my dear non-Hispanic and non-Latino friends, is an AWESOME restaurant for MEXICAN Breakfast. Top-notch Mexican cuisine any time of day, too. The gorditas are especially good. Thank you, sir.
This is absolutely perfect. I was actually going to start a thread asking where to eat and where the nice restaurants are in Irving because I just moved here last week for work.
Welcome to North Texas - places to check out near Irving: Grapevine & Southlake are both nice. I live on the edge of Hurst & Fort Worth, so I usually go into FW to do things. I rarely go to Dallas, but the Foundry is a decent place with a great chicken place next door. The Bishop Arts district in Dallas is the new "hip" area with some good places to eat and not too far from Irving. I prefer Fort Worth in general though - less pretentiousness.
Cruise down 183 and go the the University of Dallas. Go downstairs and order a quesadilla from the Rathskellar....magnifique!
I live in the Plano/Lewisville area ...any way we can get a support group of Houston transplants going?
Lol please tell me this is a joke? I didn't know the "rat" was still in operation. Plus, there has to be better places to order a quesadilla from in Irving alone than UD.
I'll definitely check out Danal's. I'm in the Las Colinas area so there's a lot of chains around here but haven't had the chance to really venture out. I'm all game for getting a group together to watch games. I got the Rockets decal from LCAhmed and I'm scared to put it on my car in fear for keying haha.
Apologies for the double comment-- I heard FW has a nice night life. Not too far from my place but never been. I've only been to Uptown and Knox Henderson..? If that's what it's called. It's like the Rice Village of Houston or something.
thy77 and ferrari77, are yall UD alums?? I thought I was only one on this board, and possibly the universe! Class of 06!!
there's a place further down the street on Irvington called Fiesta en Guadalajara that is really good as well. Their Pappa nachos are incredible!!!
Fort Worth's nightlife is decent depending on what you like in nightlife. I'm more of a pub/tavern guy so I like a few places in the cultural district and a couple on the south side. Live music has couple of places in the cultural district as well. For the douche set, they'd be more interested in Sundance Square in downtown (plenty of free parking at nights and on weekends). For daytime activities - Fort Worth has excellent museums and a national top 10 zoo. The stockyards is full of country bars, but great for kids during the day - its like an older western town area with daily cattle drives, a train station with a full-size steam train (runs to Grapevine and back) and people dressed as cowboys getting into "gunfights", "robbing the train" and posing for pictures with people.
I've definitely heard about FW's country scene but nothing else. I really appreciate all of your advice! I'm actually heading to Bishop Arts District tomorrow, per your recommendation. Also planning on visiting both Highland Park Village and Klyde Warren Park. Been here two weeks and first time I've gotten out of the apartment to explore.
I dig me some Ft. Worth. The wife and I have been twice in the last couple years and had a great time. Much different feel than Dallas. Other than them liking all the same pro sports teams...
