As long as the root causes of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict remain unresolved, occasional outcroppings of violence, like the current mini-war in Gaza, are inevitable. This is the third major Israeli offensive against Hamas and the people of Gaza in the last six years. Refusing to accept international legality as the basis for resolving its dispute with the Palestinians, Israel's right-wing government is ever ready to resort to military force. And they did't achieve any goal but loosing 70+ soldiers ,and for Hamas , it's just a learning curve to perfect their tactics
Meh, that's life now. The result, not the root. The Arabs immediately invaded when Israel was formed. What was the root cause of that?
The root cause of that was the fact that the (what were to become Israeli) Zionist forces invaded and slaughtered Palestinian villages prior to the formation of Israel. They were already in the process of capturing land. It wasn't as if the Israeli forces were sitting there all peaceful like, and then the day they were formed the Arabs all of a sudden attacked. http://paolobarnard.info/docs/Doc. 1 Le origini del conflitto israelo-palestinese.pdf This is all stuff that happened prior to May 15, 1948.
a great Jewish historian IIan Pappe can explain it much better :History of Israel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKGA48MptIY
""In December 1947, the British announced that they would withdraw from Palestine by May 15, 1948. Palestinians in Jerusalem and Jaffa called a general strike against the partition. Fighting broke out in Jerusalem's streets almost immediately...Violent incidents mushroomed into all-out war" You conclude from that that Israel attacked the Arabs out of nowhere?
The opposite is true. All this "they stole our land" stuff is just a pretense to act out on hate. Borders change. If Russia ends up keeping the Krim, should Ukrainians forever and ever shoot rockets at them, build terror tunnels, send suicide bombers, teach their children to hate Russians forever? At some point you have to accept the facts and work from there. CometsWin is a weird poster. Some posts are reasonable, especially when he tells Mathloom to shut up, but when it comes to Israel, so much hate is coming to the surface ("you Israeli goons", all that stuff about stolen land, etc. etc. etc.) that it makes you wonder what personal story is behind this.
You got it. The two horrible criminal acts under international law are very similar. You have some really bad guys telling the lies and scaring the population. The inhuman (untermensch for ATW) or terrorists are going to get you,. Much more understandable that the Israelis are stampeded to following them as there is a continual drum beat to scare them about the Holocaust ;and there is resistance as happens every where when you ethnically cleanse and try to displace populations from their ancestral homelands; not so understandable for the 300 million Americans in the sole supervisor. Both lie about wmd and being annihilated, or scary tunnels etc. They constantly change the reasons for their war crimes, but the underlying reason remain the same. Both the Israeli bad guys and the US bad guys (with much cross pollination) are doing these mass killings for other than real security reasons and they know it. Any resistance from their victims will of course be used as further justification to military attack. The real reason is for Israel to grab more land and essentially ethnically cleanse the Palestinians to Bantustans. The neo-con types like Cheney, Wolfowitz, etc for oil, resources, their own pocket books (their cozy military industrial holdings) and their crazy ideas of total world domination
Of course not though the major lostsin pubic opinion around the world and among younger Americans, including liberal Jews and many tend to be so inclined, is not cost free for the Zionist project. You miss the point. Perhaps s an analogy. A person is walking down the street and is assaulted by a much bigger person with a club. They defend themselves. What choice did they have if they "got the worst of it".
Please take your meds, glynch. You are becoming less and less coherent, and your blind hate against Israel is shining through more and more.
I have wondered about your personal story. I don't think your problem with obsessive racial/ethnic/ religious hatred is genetic despite the Nazis.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/wor...n-paid-by-Hamas-for-murders-of-teenagers.html Israel announces arrest of Palestinian man 'paid by Hamas' for murders of teenagers Court documents say Hussam Qawasmeh confessed to obtaining funding from Hamas for abductions and killings which ultimately led to Gaza conflict A Palestinian arrested by an Israeli anti-terrorism unit has confessed that the abduction and murder of three Israeli teenagers in June was funded by Hamas from Gaza, according to court documents made public on Wednesday. Hussam Qawasmeh, from Hebron in the West Bank, is said to have admitted helping to plan the kidnappings, obtaining funding for the operation from the Islamist group and burying the teenagers’ bodies in a plot of land he had bought several months previously. The kidnapping and the subsequent discovery of the young men’s bodies beneath a pile of rocks in a field near Hebron was a key event in the lead-up to Israel’s decision to begin its month-long attack on Gaza, Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, insisted from the outset that Hamas, whose political wing rules Gaza, had been behind the murders, but the apparent confession is the first time direct testimony has been made public confirming the group’s link to the crime. Mr Qawasmeh, 40, was arrested on July 11 in the Shuafat neighbourhood of East Jerusalem by an anti-terrorism unit acting on a tip-off from the Shabbak security services, a police spokesman said. Details of the arrest were revealed in documents submitted to an Israeli court in defence of a demolition order placed on his family home in Hebron. Even before the teenagers’ bodies were found in a field belonging to the Qawasmeh family, Israel launched an all-out raid on Hamas-related infrastructure and organisations in the West Bank. Within days, Hamas and Israel started exchanging rocket and missile fire and this eventually escalated into an intense Israeli aerial bombardment of Gaza and a subsequent ground invasion. The assault, which Israel said was aimed at destroying the leadership of Hamas and its network of tunnels and rocket launchers, led to the deaths of at least 1,800 Palestinians and only ended on Tuesday with a 72-hour ceasefire. Israel announced on Wednesday night it was willing to extend the ceasefire further, beyond Friday morning, after a delegation joined negotiations in Egypt to discuss a long-term agreement to end the conflict in Gaza. Earlier, Ban Ki-moon, the UN secretary-general, said “the horror that was unleashed on the people of Gaza” during Operation Protective Edge could amount to a violation of international law. The operation brought devastation to the besieged coastal enclave, with thousands rendered homeless and injured. Meanwhile, Israel was hit by more than 3,000 rockets, forcing up to two thirds of its population repeatedly into shelters. There had been earlier doubts over the precise role of Hamas in the kidnapping, with its political leadership denying any involvement. But the organisation’s military wing – the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades – operates independently from its political leadership. Yuval Diskin, a former head of Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security organisation, said in a recent interview with Der Spiegel that he thought the Hamas political bureau was “taken by surprise” by the abduction and “it seems as though it was not coordinated or directed by them”. The Qawasmeh family is part of an enormous, elite clan based primarily in Hebron and numbering up to 17,000 members. Some serve as officials in the more moderate Fatah faction of the Palestinian leadership. But the branch of the family in question – including another key suspect in the murders, Marwan Qawasmeh, who remains a fugitive – has long-standing links to the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, one relation said.
According to Wikipedia, 62%. A significant difference from 86%. That number was closer to support for the Afghanistan War, though I'm sure people here will argue that that war was unjustified as well.
Another excellent find by Exiled which belies the attempts to present anyone on the board who goes beyond the typical support of the Zionist narrative in the United States which has been so dominant until the last few years and especially before the opening in 19080 of the historical archives in Britain and Israel. A very good and well reasoned speech before a leadig Austrialian public affairs council. Really recommend it for those with an open mind. Pappe is surprsingly hopeful that within 10 years or so there can be a framework for a lasting peace.
