Ever since that Ebola guy made the news and now landed here in the US. Hes in Atlanta getting cured but they are now saying on the news a 2nd person got and is being cured. Should we start to be worried or no?

I'm not scared but I am definitely paying attention to it. I am in my twenties and ever since I can remember there is constantly some new, spreading potential epidemic.

We have been through Mad Cow, SARS, West Nile, Avian flu, Swine flu, and a few more "epidemics" I am sure I am forgetting. Ebola flares up frequently in West Africa and is a persistent problem. This definitely is the worst that I can remember but I feel like the media is hyping this up. Fear mongering makes cable news networks money, just look at the Fox News business model.

No, you shouldn't be worried at all. It's a medical transfer, thus no doubt quarantined. Conditions and ignorance about disease in Africa is what lets ebola thrive, and those conditions simply aren't present here.

Edit: I should note while there's no concern for my personal safety with regards to ebola, I am concerned of the safety of the people in the region where the outbreak is occurring. I hope it doesn't get any worse, but I fear it may.

I'm not really afraid because I'm confident that the US is better situated to contain an outbreak than places like Sierra Leone. But, I'm definitely concerned that it will spread to other vulnerable countries and cause a lot of devestation. So, I want a lot of resources thrown at the problem to put it out before it gets too big. Not to mention, the bigger it gets internationally, the more likely it is to become a danger to the US.

When a 3rd person got it, all hell broke loose (in the news).

    Saw this on twitter:

You know what else can save you from Ebola? Good hygiene, biohazard grade isolation wards and not hanging around West Africa licking things.
— Jackson James Wood (@_jjw_) August 4, 2014

I'm not too worried. I don't plan on sharing needles or ****ing any of the patients they brought back here and they screen for diseases like these when you enter the country (especially during an endemic like this).

fear usually results from a lack of understanding

add that to the phenomenon of today's instant info-tainment industry trolling for clicks and you have this weeks hysteria

they will be on to something else next week
