Yes, but is Allen worth more than the vet minimum or the BAE at best? Marion too isn't worth more than 1 year of the remaining 4.8 M MLE remaining with the Rockets. I think DM lowballed Kostas Papanikolaou to some extent. A 2 yr 6M along with the 500,000 plus buyout allowed should have been able to get him here. The remaining MLE still would have been enough for Nick Johnson. Kostas is no Marion, and he is never going to be mistaken as a Ray Allen type of shooter, but he is younger than them. He is a good role player who could fit in quite well ala Luis Scola, especially on the defensive end. A bird in the hand is worth more than two in the bush.
Perhaps like Dwight Howard, one of the biggest free-agent moves of our generation, who cited McHale as a big factor in his decision to come to Houston?
McHale's " all world" coaching performance couldn't convince Bosh that Houston was a better fit for him than Miami.
Yes, because I'm sure the "fit" was what made the decision for Bosh, not an additional $35-to-$40 million in guaranteed money.
The talent level on the Rockets would have been higher if Bosh had joined Houston, even with the current coaching staff. Sure, he took the extra money but Miami didn't have Howard, Harden or a potentially re-signed Parsons either. If you have a solid coaching staff, there is a better chance to win.
What are you talking about? Yes, of course the talent level on the Rockets would've been higher if Bosh were here. The point is that Bosh's decision came down to the extra guaranteed money. You could put Gregg Popovich in Houston and Bosh and his wife weren't leaving Miami for Texas and a $40 million paycut. It's that simple. Your post was blaming McHale for not attracting free agents, which is outright lunacy considering he played a huge part in attracting Dwight Howard. You then tried to blame him for the Bosh fallout, which is equally outrageous.
What does this post have to do with anything? You suggested that Bosh opting for Miami was due to McHale's poor coaching, rather than him getting $30+ million more to play in the city his family already calls home. You really believe that?
10 years ago they were allstars....we don't need them to be allstars...we need them to come in and provide 15-20 minutes of effective minutes and veteran leadership in the locker room/on the court. that is something they both can provide. yes, they are way past their prime..that does NOT mean they cannot help the team in the reduced role compared to 10 yrs. ago. ......
The main reason for Bosh not coming here is the money I admit. I should have worded things properly. I do feel that the overall poor performance from our players, as well as the coaching also is making us an unattractive place for FA's right now.
Well Ariza signed for less than market value here. He got the exact same offer from Washington and chose us instead.
Stop it. Money talks. Bs walks. The 5 year deal is what we couldn't compete against. Morey will have to trade for a player.
Did the Wizards make that offer? Seems I read they're harboring hope that KD will sail home in a couple seasons and are leaving that cap room intact, and made a 3-team trade so as to get a trade exception in case...whomever (likely a player whose contract doesn't extend past 2016) became available.
You are correct. I just feel our overall current position is causing difficulties for us. The 1st round exit has set us back.
