I really want Allen or Marion for on this team for MLE. Getting Allen would mean Harden would have to play major minutes at the SF position though. SG: Harden(18), Allen(20), Daniels (10) SF: Ariza(30), Harden(18) rotation would be something like that i'd imagine, give or take some minutes with Daniels/Allen playing PG and Harden/Ariza playing the PF.
I posted this on Twitter earlier, but the most interesting thing we've learned today is that there is definitely NOT a "wink-wink deal" between Allen and Cleveland. First you had Allen making comments that strongly insinuated he would not play for the minimum and had not spoken to LeBron about Cleveland, and then you have Cleveland's public pursuit of Marion. Spoiler alert: Marion may want a ring, but he's not going to go to Cleveland to be a 12th man. With LeBron, Mike Miller and Waiters already in place (I'm assuming Wiggins/Bennett are gone), there's no way for both Allen and Marion to each be rotation players in Cleveland. And if they're pursuing Marion, then that tells me they aren't planning on Allen being there. None of this necessarily means that Allen will be in Houston; certainly he could retire and seems open to it. But Houston seems to hit a lot of items on Allen's checklist -- money, rotation spot, contending status, veteran coach -- and we know from Feigen that the Rockets have been in contact with him. I think there's a real shot.
I find this quote interesting. Because I have to imagine the Rockets called, and I find no reason why they won't offer the BAE. It seems the BAE is made for players like Allen. But if we're not offering him that money, who are we waiting on? I can't imagine you can get a better player for that price.
maybe but the more likely scenario is he is waiting for the kevin love deal to happen. I can see him trying to get paid though too. what can we give him? who can pay him? what is he worth?
What would that change? They'd still have no money or playing time. I think basically the entire NBA is already operating under the assumption that Love is a Cavalier. In fact, the scenario I outlined assumes the Love trade happens. Cleveland would have LeBron, Miller and Waiters already, and they're prioritizing Marion as evidenced by their recruiting visit today. Where do Allen's minutes come from? Why would he make the statement about not wanting a minimum deal, if he's about to accept that? The Rockets could pay him $4.8 million of the MLE, which is more than every other contender except for San Antonio, and I doubt the Spurs could offer him the playing time. That said, they could offer him the "great, veteran coach" he's said to be looking for. I'd say the most realistic options are the Rockets, Spurs or retirement.
That the 4.8 million is a big number. If I were him based on what you say I would go to San Antonio. he is ray allen he will get minutes.
Parker/Mills/Joseph Green/Belinelli/Anderson Leonard/Ginobli/Daye Duncan/Diaw/Pendergraph Splitter/Bonner/Baynes Spurs roster is pretty loaded, and the spurs seem like they would be loyal to their players. Don't see them kicking Belinelli out of the rotation for Allen.
Can we stop trying to get these old ass fossils on our team? First Marion, now Allen........ these dudes are DONE
I would not mind Allen, Matrix and Elton Brand joining the rockets. Thats what I feel the rox is missing, veterans that have won it all.
If you do notice though, every 3 or so years the Spurs reshuffle their role players. Bruce Bowen, Stephen Jackson, Roger Mason, George Hill, Rasho Nesterovich, Nazi Mohammed, Devin Brown, Brent Barry, Beno Udrih, Michael Finley, Richard Jefferson, Gary Neal LOYAL YES!... If they buy into Pop's system. They do reshuffle them with a James Harden "role player" mentality though.
Allen could be a really good fit for the Rockets. Veteran with championship experience who can be a leader for a young and woefully inexperienced bench.
Would love Allen as an addition to the team. Giving us such a reliable 3 PT shooter, in addition to having Ariza. With Dwight in the post, it might start looking like the Orlando team that went to the finals.
Had the pleasure of watching Jesus Shuttlesworth bring a title to my hometown i3oston Celtics. His clutch 3 point shooting is one of the most uncanny things you'll see in the NBA. Clearly he'd be a excellent pickup for Houston even in his advanced age (his fitness is off the charts), but I fear Cleveland is a done deal especially with Love on the way.
That is not surprising at all. Most of the blame is on the players, but poor coaching plays a significant part as well. If DM/Les had hired SVG, George Karl or even Hollins along with capable assistants, we would have become a more attractive destination to free agents.
these dudes that are "done" could've made the difference between a first round exit and moving on..this past year. remember all those close games we blew? yeah...alot of those mistakes wouldn't have happened if we had ray allen and shawn marion.
