Last night's start already scared you off a win? how about the same deal I proposed to The Beard a few posts up?
Colin Moran = Bill Spiers? Line drive hitting lefty 3B with below average power but will hit around .300 with solid defense?
Spiers played all over, not just third base. Kike is more Spiers to me which is why I think the Marlins wanted him, incredible flexibility.
I don't think Kiké hits good enough at the big league level to be an everyday guy. This year has been a small sample size, everything else up until now has been sub par offensively.
Very young though, and hit very well in minors this year. Could be maturity finally led to him being a player Either way, I miss his mom already
True but ... This year, Kiké hit well in AA and then in AAA and then in The MLB. Each of those steps is a big transition. Not uncommon at all for a player to repeat AA or AAA, until they master that level. Kiké just keep raking through the levels. Also, IMO Kiké hit well enough to be an everyday 2B, just not for the Astros.
Not sure he doesn't have power... He played in an extreme league where the top hitting home run team was only homering every other game.
It's crazy for the Stros to trade for a 21ish college 3Bman who has a solid glove, a good bat, on-base skills and questionable "doubles" power. Yeah, that'll never work out.
Do you expect Colin Moran to put on 50 pounds in the next several years? I remember a former first round pick who was a lot better prospect than Moran that was always going to grow into more power, his name was Sean Burroughs. I think some of you are on a prospect high where anyone and everyone is going to not only pan out but possibly be a great player.
All the more reason to get a bunch of prospects, we are well aware that most prospects don't pan out. Right now the Astros farm probably has 30 guys with legit potential to become ML regulars, with varying degrees of floor and ceiling of course. Sometime big prospects do nothing, and sometimes small prospects become Dallas Keuchel or Ben Zobrist. Most prospects won't pan out, but Luhnow has set us up with prospects and fallback prospects. Not to mention trade weapons. If Moran fails, maybe Ruiz succeeds, or vice versa. That's why so many of us rave about this system's depth.
Sean Burroughs was at one time a decent player, and would be an upgrade over Matt Dominguez. Not everyone pans out, but some prospects are more likely than others to pan out.
