Personally i don't think it is as bad as an Achilles or acl rupture. I've ruptured my Achilles before, and its pain level, and recovery time is horrible. Regarding PGs recovery, only time well tell to be honest.
This injury is nothing like what happened with Shaun Livingston, who suffered a significant knee injury, with multiple ligament tears. As per media reports they are stating that this was an open displaced fracture of the lower leg (meaning the bones pierced the skin)...Both the fibula and tibia of his leg was broken. Best case scenario that the break was clean/without fragmentation and damage to nerves and major leg vessels...He will need a metal rod plus screws to fix the injury. Anderson Silva's injury comes to mind. But please do remember that PG is 24 and young. Bone's have blood supplies, therefore heal well. The injury is extremely gruesome to look at, but he could make a great recovery(approx 4-6 months for the bone to heal with a rod and screws) another few more for strength and getting over the shock...basically the upcoming season. I wish PG and his family the best in this very hard period of his life.
The stanchion was way closer than either FIBA or NBA standards. Fiba: From the backboard to the stanchion is 1.2 meters (3.94 feet) NBA: From the backboard to the stanchion is 4 feet
NBA fans as a whole. The East isn't even respectable now. The Cavs have a legit shot at going to the finals. Hope PG gets well from this, looks terrible.
Incredible amount of coverage... Imagine if this happened to Lebron. I think ESPN anchors would kill themselves on air.
this is my thought. calcium, vitamin d, k2, magnesium... something has got to be going wrong. I think the joint should give out before the bone breaks like that. The leg should twist... something before the bone breaks. Maybe these guys are playing through leg fractures. Something just seems off about that.
Guys, it's not a calcium issue. The goal base was definitely too close. PG kicked his leg out, but he should be used to moving around in that area, as many games as a pro plays. What ends up happening is, your mind has a memory of how much clearance there usually is and reacts according to that, when you're not directly looking at the area. So, his mind is thinking his foot is going to land a certain way, but the shortened distance throws a wrench in that programmed landing , leaving his foot to land at an unexpected moment and angle. Then, something has to give because his momentum is still moving his body away, and that was his bone.. In other words..his ankle and knee weren't ready to bend appropriately to land , so that forced the bone between them to bend (break).
