(in reply to Carl's post at the bottom of the previous page)

Another point that is brought up from time to time, but frequently buried under the numerous "DMo sucks!" posts, and that is the well known fact that most big men take time to develop. Not every big man steps on the court and makes an impact in their first and second, or even third seasons. Not every big man is an Hakeem, a Shaq, or a Ralph Sampson.

Yes, but we are constrained by time. If you told me DMo would take a major step forward this year, then sure.....I'd be all for keeping him. But if it's anything longer than that, I'd be concerned about keeping Howard beyond 2016.

Howard isn't going anywhere. Rockets will sign him to a massive 5 year deal at age 30.

Josh McRoberts didn't exactly light the world on fire last year. He played a ton of minutes on a defensive team that got seventh seed in the east. I hope Dmo has a lot more potential than that.

    Can I correct you?

    We need a coach. Period.

He doesn't need to "light the world on fire". Just needs to hit open 3s and efficiently distribute. He can do both well, and for a fair price ($5 million/year).

    lol

Exactly. Howard is a Rocket. We will just keep handing him max contracts and Morey will keep trying to give him the best chance at winning. Same with Harden.

    Josh McRoberts!?
Are we REALLY having this conversation?

Where's Ryan Bowen when you need him?

DMo just has to learn how to freakin shoot. Keep shooting every single day until the season. Don't ship him to Miami. Keep DMO, sign Marion, Probably might have to take back Bass in the trade as well

    Howard
    D-Mo/Bass
    Ariza/Marion
    Beard/Trey
    Rondo/Bev

    I'll roll with that.

    (JVG please come back)

If we get Rondo, we'd be a good Freethrow Tanking Fantasy Team. Just need to trade Harden for J-Smoove and Drummond and we're good to go.

That was my diplomatic way of saying he still sucks. $5M/yr my ass, I wouldn't even take him for the minimum. I'd rather roll with Jones and DMo.

Would a deal for Rondo have to wait on the Love/Bledsoe situations? Or can Morey do this before?

Not sure what you guys are looking for.

    - 36% 3 point shooter
    - 4-to-1 assist to turnover ratio (2nd only to CP3 in the entire league)
    - He's 6'10".......not an undersized PF
    - Known for his posterizing dunks and creative drives to the basket.
    - Played on a very good defensive team in Charlotte. Not an elite defender, but shouldn't be a huge minus there either (similar to Boozer).
    - Only takes 2 types of shots.......3s and layups/dunks. Perfect for this team.

He's essentially a poor man's Kevin Love. Not in the same universe as Love as a rebounder, and he can't create his own shot.....but he can create offense for others and shoot.

He would be surrounded by good rebounders and defenders in Ariza and Dwight, so that is less of a concern. We'd have Harden and a better PG (whoever it be) to create for him.

We wouldn't be asking him to be anything more than a role player on this team. Hit open shots and move the ball. $5 million for a 6'10 PF that can shoot and pass at a high level is a steal.

The other thing to consider is that we may be able to get him for FREE....nothing more than the Lin TPE. With Lebron gone, he's a terrible fit in Miami. They don't have anyone to initiate the offense now. Bosh and McRoberts don't fit on the floor together. Miami was a terrible rebounding team WITH Lebron....they will get killed on the glass if they role with a front court of Bosh and McRoberts. And Miami has already proven that they care about cost....and that was when they were competing for championships.

Bottom line is we need a stretch 4. Ilyasova has significant injury concerns and is getting paid 50% more than McRoberts. Love is going to Cleveland. Mirotic was told he won't be traded. We can't afford Millsap. Ryan Anderson is coming off back surgery. So find me a stretch 4 that we can afford and fits this team.

    McRoberts is essentially Boris Diaw

    - Neither are good rebounders (tied for #67 among PFs in defensive rebound rate)
    - Both are great passers (McRoberts is TWICE as efficient as Diaw)
    - Both are good 3 point shooters (Diaw - 40%, McRoberts - 36%)

Where they differ is on the defensive end. McRoberts is ok......Diaw is very good. McRoberts is 5 years younger than Diaw.

    HAHAHAHAHAHA.

Poor man's Kevin Love? Just stick with the poor man's Diaw comparison. You said it yourself, he's not a great defender and is actually a terrible rebounder. What qualities are we lacking most? Defense and defensive rebounding. He's also terrified to shoot unless WIDE open. Last year was the first time he took a meaningful number of threes and he's just as likely to regress to the mean as he is to improve.

His best asset is his passing; he can initiate from the high post. Do we need a playmaker on this team with Harden and Howard? Maybe, seeing as we've lost Parsons and Lin, but we let those guys go for flexibility. I don't think we're going to waste that flexibility on a guy that averages 8/5 in 30 minutes and isn't elite or even above average in the categories where we're weak.

McRoberts is nowhere near Diaw when it comes to back-to-the-basket basketball. McRoberts is a face-up guy only. Diaw is a jack-of-all-trades and master of some. Diaw can manhandle smaller players with his post-up moves. McRoberts simply does not have a post-up game.

What's wrong with saying a "poor man's Kevin Love". I'm acknowledging he's not near the same players Love is, but that their games are similar.

You seems to have left off my comment that he would be surrounded by good rebounders and defenders in Howard and Ariza. Even adding McRoberts in, we have still improved our rebounding/defense by taking out Parsons and inserting Ariza. McRoberts is not worse than TJones, or at least not by a significant margin.

McRoberts took 4 3s per game last year....almost 3 times more than Diaw. 7th most of any PF. Where are you getting this "terrified to shot" junk? And what kind of shots do you think he would be jacking up if not open ones. He would be playing next to Harden and Howard...plenty of open shots to be had.

I'm not suggesting that we "waste" flexibility. AFTER we fix the PG situation (permenently), THEN we need to address our 4. Our options will be:

    Ilyasova (multiple injury problems)
Ryan Anderson (coming off back surgery)
Mirotic (Chicago told him he will not be traded)
Millsap (we can't get after trading for a PG)
    Bass (not a stretch 4)
    Teletovic
Thad Young (not a stretch 4)
    Marcus Morris
    Markieff Morris

Again.....McRoberts would be a role player. Nothing more or less. He fills a need, compliments our star players, and is not overpaid to do this. Our roster would still be very flexible after adding him and a guy like Rondo.

    Rondo / Bev / Canaan
    Harden / Daniels / Johnson
    Ariza / Marion
    McRoberts / DMo / Adrien
    Howard / Dorsey

Not sure why that would be important with Howard in the middle. If you want back-to-basket, then bring DMo off the bench or let Harden do some work in the post. With Ariza and McRoberts on the wings, either should have plenty of room to operate.
