Definitely not a fan of all the characters being left out. Will see how HBO handles this.

For me leaving characters out of the series equates with their importance in the books. No Stoneheart? No Arianne? Then GRRM really is just kinda wandering for 40 years in the desert, waiting for word from on high.

    Hopefully they'll still show up.

I feel like this season is the point where the TV series will be taking a road down it's own made-up storyline, ignoring entire parts of the next few books. So no Arianne probably means no Aegon.

This is what I also thought. I am not really sure how much I cared for Aegon.

If he indeed is left out, that will probably mean that he is not really Aegon in the books.

Or if he is in the series than I expect that one of the Sand snakes will be send to see if he really is Aegon.

I am not really that we are learning about the books through the series. Who is important and who is not. I expect that Martin will not finish the books before the series. So we will find out how it ends through the series.:(

Yeah, the ironic thing is the non-book readers have been so paranoid for so long about us readers spoiling them on significant (or insignificant) events. Now, based on what the showrunners choose to keep or not could very well spoil the readers, to a lesser degree, on what to expect in the coming two books.

I wonder about this. The producers publicly act like this is the case. Even GRRM won't naysay it; he's hinted at the series ending in movies due to the dragons and white walkers getting to the point where HBO's budget won't work (although others have been quick to step in with, "Nope, nope, nope").

If I were GRRM, no way I'd let the series close the story before the books came out. Now, there's supposedly going to be seven seasons of GoT. (I guess HBO likes to finish each show with seven seasons; kinda stupid, if the popularity is still there, but in the case of True Blood, a blessing.)

With all the cuts we see coming (no Iron Islands, maybe no Arianne, MAYBE no Aegon), I can see the next two books getting crammed into a season-and-a-half, especially since much of Book 4's Sansa and Brienne stories have already appeared.

But as an author of a phenomenally successful series, I just wouldn't allow the TV show, despite its own success, to undercut me. Either the show would have to go on hiatus or they'd have to finish as movies.

I was thinking this as I read the books...

Also Martin won't be writing ANY episodes this seasons and wants longer seasons... Seems like HBO has a different vision for its show and is slapping Martin with the proverbial, contractual dick across his fluffy white beard.

I would have liked to see more Hispanics cast as the Dornish, but oh well. The show has done a great job casting to this point and I am grateful Oberyn was outstanding on screen at least.

I am surprised Arianne isn't included seeing as she has POVs in the new book, but we'll see how it works.

I'm wondering how important the Ironborn are if they're being left out.

Judging by this and other web pages, it seems as if Ellaria Sand will be given more scenes than in the book (on another site seen long ago, someone close to the show, maybe a producer, mentioned her future importance).

You also see two important characters (Jaime and Bronn) in Dorne, a big departure from the books (so far, unless GRRM revealed something to the producers of "Winds of Winter").

J.J. Murphey, playing Ser Denys Mallister, has passed away. I really like the showrunners' statement:

"We will not be recasting J.J. Murphy. He was a lovely man, and the best Denys Mallister we could have hoped for. And now his watch is ended," "Game of Thrones" executive producers D.B. Weiss and David Benioff said in a statement to the Daily News.

i'm guessing illyn payne has been removed from training with jaime, also what about the blackfish escaping river run, if jaime is in dorne i guess that means he wont be going to river run

Yeah, that'd be an odd one.

Unless the show is really filling in backstory of Dorne and delaying, rather than cutting, other storylines....

But Jaime in Dorne, not to mention Bronn showing up at all?

Obviously the important thing is where all the stories converge (i.e., matching up with GRRM's big picture).

I think HBO is intentionally departing from the book storyline because they know they'll move faster than Martin's writing. They don't want to be married to a storyline that hasn't been written and would rather just take it where they want to go. It's also better for Martin if they go off the rails, because then his books won't be spoiled by what happens in the show. They could ultimately arrive at very different conclusions by the end.

This is what I'm thinking, although I'm sure the major details of the ending will be the same.

It's obvious Martin isn't gonna be able to stay ahead of the show, so HBO is gonna go forward on their own. Hopefully GRRM plays ball.

This technically isn't a spoiler for Season 5, UNLESS elements from "Winds of Winter" are folded into Season 5 (although when will that book be published? don't know; but the author has shared major plot elements with the show's producers).

Dorne will play a major part in the upcoming season and apparently the Sand Snakes will not only appear (of course) but continue as important characters in the upcoming book:

    http://www.breathecast.com/articles...r-george-rr-martin-dishes-out-spoilers-18554/

In an interview with Zap2itGeorge R.R. Martin said that fans would meet the Martells of Dorne in Season Five of the 'Game of Thrones' HBO series. Also, the Sand Snakes will appear (the daughters of Oberyn Martell) who will likely seek revenge for the death of their father.

"I hope you like them, because you're also going to be seeing a lot of them in 'The Winds of Winter', the author said. In addition, George R.R. Martin confirmed that he's no longer going to write an episode for 'Game of Thrones' Season 5, because he's like to solely focus on finishing 'Winds of Winter'.

I found another great site gor GoT news. I'm sure there are folks here that know about it already, but I just found it a few weeks ago. WIC has gone to utter crap since Fansided took it over. So now I go to Watchers On The Wall. It is updated everyday, and it has soem really great content. Just thought I would pass it along to those who dont know about it already.

Really they don't have much story to tell at this point and it can be saved for season six. Hopefully Bran doesn't grow another foot by then kid is huge already compared to the first season.

Still puzzled that they haven cast(or announced the casting) of Arianne Martell yet. Dorne is supposed to be a major focus in this season and she's a pretty big player in Dorne.

For some reason I have a feeling they're gonna cut a lot of the sexy stuff she does if she is included in this season :(

I expect she will not be cast. And the sandsnakes will get her storyline.
