I come home from my Saturday morning routine to find my neighbor (moved in two months ago) pilling limbs in my yard. I ask what is he doing? He replied that the limbs were from my tree hanging over in to his yard and I need to do something with them since they are from my tree. I kept my calm told him I never had this problem before, but if he wanted I would help load them and told him where he could get rid of them for free. That is when he told me again this time with a little upset that they are from my tree they or mine not his and I should deal with them. Still keeping my cool for the most part I said you cut them you need to deal with them not me. He now gets mad and starts yelling at me and walks off. So I grab the pile and slide it into his yard. He must have cooled down some because he hauled off all the limbs but one which he left in my yard.

The lone limb, I love that move. So passive-aggressive.

You did it right. I would have just said nothing and put em in his yard from the street.

Quick question thought? if some one's tree's limb is in your yard, what's the appropriate response? Usually I would ask them if they would be willing to trim it but if they say no, what's the next step.

Cut em and dump em in his back yard. If he asks tell him the squirrels must have done it.

Take a dump in his yard. Establish yourself as the alpha and assert your dominance.

treat the part of the limb in your yard as if it were yours and trim it up

100% agreed. "Oh, you don't like my limbs in your yard? How do you feel about my bullets in your limbs?" Then shoot him in the knees, French his wife, and slap any children present. He'll never celebrate Arbor Day again.

    But it's not my tree.....

What would the HOA rule it as?

Also, would the tree owners care? I've seen some trees, when you just constantly chop off everything on one side, the other side start sagging and it'll start to fall over. Lastly, the easiest place to remove branches is right near the center of the tree, what if that's in his yard? Can I just reach over and chop it?

One more thing, if I just start spraying this on where the branch stump is cut, it should prevent it from growing again right? Is it allowed as long as it's on my side?

Also, just for the record, I've got like 10 trees in my back yard. I pay to have them trimmed twice a year because I think that's just the neighborly thing to do ....

Impregnate his wife with your seed as well, if possible.

I have to say that I kind of agree with your neighbor. I'd still get rid of them if I trimmed them, but it should have never come to that.

You can cut any limbs over your yard but you can't kill his tree.

I've heard this before, but it makes no sense. How do you know if cutting all the limbs hanging in your yard will kill the tree or not? It likely will kill it, but could take years.

Any limbs in his yard is his problem. He's a douche for doing that. At the very least, he could have warned you. You shouldn't just throw that on someone. Even if you were willing to dump them for him, it's still a huge inconvenience for that to fall on your lap unexpectedly.
