28 Years old, losing playing time in KC as he is having a down year

Track record says great approach at the plate though, definitely a Luhnow type of guy. Wonder what it would take to get him right now

$12+M team option for next year. No thanks.

With our payroll, why would 12 Million be a problem?

Because I'd spend that money somewhere other than on a reclamation project who can only DH.

28 Years old, career on base over .360

Yes it's been a bad year, but personally I wouldn't consider him a huge reclamation project. That .360 on base comes in over 4,000 at bats. Hit .289 or better 5 years in a row heading into this year, that started at age 23.

The money wouldn't be much different that what we are paying Feldman, and the upside is much greater (in my opinion)

I don't look at him as so much of a reclamation as a great buy low opportunity. Plus, this ballpark would be a lot better for his game than KC

Like another 5th starter making $30 million guaranteed?

Nah, it's not a terrible idea, but the question marks:

    a) His performance
    b) Will he re-sign?
    c) 12M for next year, best use of resources?
    d) Given the above, what would you be willing to part with? What do the Royals want?

He's expressed a serious desire to stay in KC, even suggesting they renegotiate his contract if, as most believe, the Royals will not pick up his option.

Earlier this year, when asked about trading him, their GM said that they would have to get back "someone who can bat 4th in our lineup". I'd imagine that stance has softened, but how much?

I have no ****ing idea what Scott Feldman has to do with any of this.

Yea if their stance was anywhere close to that still, then it's an obvious no. I doubt KC wants to move him anyway, they are likely reducing his role hoping that it shakes him loose....but it couldn't hurt to ask

I certainly wouldn't give up multiple top 20 prospects, but if a guy in the 10-15 range plus a couple of other mid range prospects could get it done, i'd be all over it. We have so much depth in our organizational prospects that packaging some of them in a move for a solid major league talent could be helpful, in my opinion

The Feldman comments came in because you commented about spending the money somewhere else, and right now, when it comes to signing someone to come to Houston Feldman is the level that we will get, for that amount of money

Totally agreed, and I'll be incredibly disappointed if this and additional FA signings aren't in the offseason plans.

The Feldman comment was not directed at you.

Billy Butler looks way out of shape to me. I think that's why his game has fallen off so much. Too fat to hit. I seriously saw him get thrown out at first on a line drive apparent single to right field. I hadn't seen that happen to anyone since like Andre Dawson throwing someone out in the 80's.
