LOL. If he throws up another playoff stinker, he himself will be considered a "piece" on this rockets team LOL.

Hence, thats why they need a good PG. Period. Harden is being used up constantly handling the ball and being a playmaker, he won't have much come playoff time at this pace. And on top of that the ball "Sticks" with him a lot which takes other people out of offense, especially with his step back 3s. He's at his best attacking the bucket. The rockets need to put Harden in a position during the season where he can coast a bit IMO. Upgrading the PG position is an absolute must.

This thread is beyond comical to me. So many fans on this site who just don't have a clue how sports and the real world work. You have to look at the underlining meaning behind what Harden is saying. Everyone on this team is an asset or role player not named Harden or Howard (and even they would be traded if LeBron wanted to come here). That's just the reality of the way business is done in sports. You are going to get traded at some point in your career for players better or worse than you are, and you will have a new "role" with that team. On every team in the NBA, EVERY PLAYER has a role do they not? Even LeBron James has a role, but he is not considered a "role player". So I don't have a single ounce of problem with the comment Harden made.

Harden is essential saying what we as fans should already know that the onus is on him and Dwight Howard to lead the Rockets to the promise land. James is not saying that his teammates don't matter or won't contribute to their success because you need a team to win a championship, you can't do it alone everyone needs help (ask Michael Jordan about that). Did Lin make some boneheaded plays that hurt us down the stretch? Yes he did. But if Harden would have played better in that series against Portland last year those games would have not been that close and James Harden knows it. This is the essence which Harden speaks in.

How many people today are still blaming David Wesley and Bobby Sura for the reason we lost in the 2005 playoffs against the Mavericks despite being up 2-0 (with 3 out of the next 5 games being played at the Toyota Center)? Again not saying that those guys didn't matter in that series because that would be a lie. But the Yao and TMac era is viewed as a failure because of Yao's and TMac's health first and then maybe lack of good teammates second. If Harden and Howard fail to take us over the top you know you gets blamed? Les, Morey, Harden, and Howard will take the blunt of criticism, not so much the "role players". Chalmers was MIA against the Spurs this year in the Finals but more people put the blame of DWade for his abysmal performance as it should have been. Wade is the "Star" player making near max money. If Wade and Chalmers both have poor games Dwayne will not get to pass go but Chalmers can. See the difference? When much is given much is required.

One of the greatest coaches ever Phil Jackson is on record for telling Dennis Rodman to come join the Bulls and come be a "role player" for them. Did Rodman have a problem with Jackson saying that? No he did not because Rodman knew he was what he was. He was coming to the Bulls to enhance them not be the man. Ariza in his phone interview said as much too, that he was a role player coming to help. I question if some of you have actually played real sports, you know for a real team (NBA 2K does not count either by the way lol)? You would be amazed at what is actually said on the court/field between opposing teams. Harsher things have been said to most of these "men" on any given game than you are a "role player". Many players would only hope to be that lucky. Again, I respect Harden and Howard for saying as much, now it is time for them to deliver.

Perhaps there is a true silver lining in losing Parsons - it could force James to take on more of a leadership role and mature. Remember that Chandler was here the year before James got here, and ended up being almost the "veteran" leader because he was essentially the only holder from that team 3 years ago.

Funny that it was a "pieces" that ended up with the Finals MVP this year too. You never hear those first ballot Hall of Famers denigrate their teammates. They don't have that kind of knucklehead Carmelo Anthony culture...

I am glad Harden did not take it personal when Morey labeled him a "foundational piece" (not a superstar) when we signed him.

Shouldn't it be the other way around? Folks making something out of nothing. Every single quote a person makes is dissected to mean whatever anybody wants?

As a matter of fact, yes he did... Olajuwon was one of the main reasons Sam got traded (so the story goes).
