I am sure most of us feel the same way. A minor utilization, like the rest of the MLE for a year contract, with a team option may be possible IMO if Kevin Love is traded soon.
Again, all quiet on the Morey front. But maybe when certain players can be traded (September, say...) we can bother paying attention again.
Houston knows it can't acquire Bledsoe, that is probably why they are quiet. They will be interested in knowing how much Phoenix will pay for him. I think they above news item is bogus too, but a sign and trade, will increase Dragic's chances of getting an extension from the Suns. I don't believe we can acquire Dragic either.
CyberX comes here states the obvious, leaves and then is probably laughing his arse off as posters keep asking him questions. He knows as much as most here do, may be just a bit more.
Not insider info but Papanikolaou wants to play in the NBA this year, so there is a possibility we move his rights (Hawks and sixers want him). Source Greek media reports.
There's still probably a chance we bring him over this year. I wouldn't be shocked if they are still discussing it if they were anywhere close on contract negotiations initially.
As I've said before, these contracts we're signing will help us make trades later on when they are tradeable on Dec 15th. We don't have enough salary to send out in a trade. The best thing to do is carefully pluck players and sign them to small contracts which they're likely to outperform. Then we can send a bunch of those plus T Jones plus the Pellies pick for a good player. That rounds out the roster nicely IMO.
I forgot what it was that prevented him coming over. Was it his buyout? Morey was offering maybe just under what his agent was asking, so I can't imagine the two sides couldn't close that small gap ("small gap" being big money to most of us, but small in terms of NBA contract) on the $$$.
i dont think the 3 sub 1mill dollar contracts (esp cause thier all guaranteed) are gonna be key salary fillers at any stage
Morey was trying to keep the contract to the BAE. My gut tells me he was saving the MLE to coax Llull. That's fallen through now so I'm expecting a signing at the backup 3 and potentially at the backup 1. We know he's going to split up the MLE and give a bit to Nick Johnson. I could see him giving ~ $3M to Papa, ~$1M to Nick and keeping the remainder available for signings throughout the year. That would leave the BAE for a veteran PG better than Ish, that would allow the rockets to be more flexible with Canaan. I just don't think Canaan is ready and I'd be shocked if they think he is.
According to this article (and somebody step on me if the article has the facts wrong), Papanikolaou has a buyout of $1.5 million. The Rockets are allowed to pay 600K of that. BUT, do the Rockets even have that kind of money still available after Asik, Gentile, etc.? ************************************************** http://www.eurohoops.net/2014/07/dribbling/52760 Houston can wait, Papanikolaou stays on July 17th, 2014 By Lefteris Moutis/ moutis@eurohoops.net After a two days negotiation, Kostas Papanikolaou decided not to accept the offer of Houston Rockets and he will not make the jump from Barcelona to the NBA. As he recently said to Eurohoops, he was willing to make a financial sacrifice, however the offer of the Rockets just wasn’t enough. The NBA team informed the representatives of the player that the four million US dollars for the next two seasons was the best deal they could offer and under those conditions, Papanikolaou will remain in Europe. The problem is not his salary, but the fact that a 1,5 m. dollars buy out to Barcelona has to be paid. According to NBA rules Houston can give to the Spanish team only 600.000 dollars and the rest has to be paid by the player himself. It remains to be seen if next summer Houston returns with a better offer or not.
Houston is allowed to pay up to $600,000 for his buyout and it doesn't count against team salary. So, yeah we have the money (assuming Les can afford $600K).
No idea how reliable these sites are... http://realidadblanca.com/2014/07/23/llull-dice-los-rockets/ via translate.google.com http://soydelmadrid.com/los-rockets-muestran-interes-en-sergio-llull/
What I meant is, we get, what? 3 million per year to grease trades, i.e., "Heeeey, Hinkie ole buddy ole pal, I despise Royce White like the Palestinians and Jews despise each other. We'll trade him to you and pay his salary?" That cost, what?, $1,400,000? This year? We spent 1.5 on Asik. We spent....how much on Gentile? Wouldn't we have to pay the 600K from the portion of 3 million left over or is it separate?
