Where besides this site have you seen any rumor of Phx sending Dragic to Houston ?! It makes no sense for them to trade their best player .... much less do it for spare parts.
Nick johnson. He is instant offence off the bench. He fits the bill of what we need off the bench. We are not looking for a guy to take a starting spot. We want a guy who can relieve minutes from harden and beverly and johnson can do just that. He is quick, relentless to the hole, shoots threes and focuses on his D. He will be great for this team. Isiah canaan is replaceable. That is why we picked up ish smith as well.
With Daniel Cannan Nick BP ish Everyone get to play 5 minutes.. mcHale will try different line...and he is sort of slow to figure out something.. So..i don't see any of them well utilized anytime soon
Happy to see both Canaan and Johnson play in pre-season to find out what they can do versus NBA competition. Right now it's hard to even make a guess about what they might do.
So your saying that Phx wants us to package our Johnson and give it to them and in return they give us Dragic. Sounds like a win win.
i mean ...i really like Johnson too, but how is a 2nd round rookie winning this poll? Keep in mind that Johnson is basically a combo guard, not a true point guard. Canaan is too, but seems more capable of playing the 1. With Daniels and Harden firmly entrenched at the 2 spot, i can't see how Johnson beats out Beverly and Cannan for time at the point. With some injuries, sure, he could figure into the rotation, but before Canaan? i don't think so. Canaan did his time in the D-league last year (D-League All Star) and looked very strong in summer league. I think he's ready to get some rotation minutes.
I'll say Nick Johnson because he can defend. That's typically how young guys get minutes. After witnessing Harden take a few defensive possessions off, I can see McHale subbing in Johnson and Johnson earning more minutes from there. But then again, right now it looks like Canaan is the second PG on our depth chart. I'm just going to assume that will change before tip off in late October.
I think it will be Johnson to crack the rotation and I like how he can take some minutes off of Harden/Bev, help limit injuries and fatigue with those guys. He is also a good defender off the bench and seems to have a high basketball IQ. But who knows they both could be in the rotation
Gotta see 2 things before i can judge: Mchales rotation and Nick's spot up 3 pointer. If Mchale brings in a pg off the bench first to play with Harden and Nick knocks down his 3's in training camp he should win the job. If Nick's shooting isn't there yet and McHale is planning on bringing in more of a whole 2nd unit off the bench we will need Cannan in for scoring.
Obviously the answer is Canaan and Johnson.... I mena we could easily throw a three man lineup of Canaan(6'1) at PG, Johnson(6'3) at SG, and Daniels (6'5) at SF off the bench. Specially given Covington's under whelming performance in the summer league.
McHale likes NicJo a lot. Canaan has experience, and he's served his time on RGV - but I predict Johnson will have seen more minutes by the end of this coming season. Furthermore, I believe Johnson is a quick learner. IMO throw em to the wolves and see how he does. Even if to just gauge where he's at in his development before sending him down to RGV.
