DMo to a lot rockets fans is like Rocky... they wish he could really box like that in real life but he is just good in the movies... ala DMo isn't all that in real nba games just in the summer league. Stop hyping this cat up he is what he is until he proves otherwise.
I'm gonna be that guy who jumps in and answers a question directed at someone else. For this team: I let go of D-Mo. TJ contributes more right now. We need to be as good as we can be now. If we are rebuilding then I keep DMo because he does have a potential skill set that is harder to replace than TJ would be. But in any trade we would move on now would be to make the team better now, not later...so DMo would be the one to go in my book if I had to make that call.
Both are third year players which is the year players typically makes huge leaps. So I like the fact that we should expect to find out this year.
Jones has amazing skills, just not big and strong enough to defend the elite power forwards in the West. DMo has the potential to be that defender. I like DMo as back up center.
DMo is the better defender, passer, and post player, but a platoon is probably the best answer. Start Jones against the smaller, more athletic PF's and start DMo against the big guys.
I agree with the post above. Terrence should work more on the SF game and is playing the 4, Dmo is mostly playing back up 5. Minutes for everyone
Next pollMo or D12 According to such poll ,we will end up having one player on the roster....then next thread is like.. One player or No Player..
ok DMo pretty much sucked all year last year offensively and defensively. If we platoon him then we would suck more at the 4-5 spot. There is no reason to think DMo will suck less this next season.
I didn't say anything about him sucking or not sucking, I just said that he is a better defender, passer, and post player than Jones, which is true. As such, IMO he's our best option at the 4 against most competition but he's weak against small, athletic PF's and that's what Jones is so he's probably best suited in those match-ups.
I voted DMo. Tough choice, I think at the end of last season TJ was obviously more NBA-ready and "better" in that sense, but I think DMo's skillset and physical qualities hold more promise. I didn't get to see the summer games but I've heard he aquitted himself well there. I think DMo gets another shot, because if he can finally put it together he has the potential to become a fantastic player... I mean, asset... to any team. I was so excited when we first got him, a big with great post moves and some shooting range, and his defense definitely stepped up last season. Just a bit more... And he passes TJ. Of course TJ might take another step forward, too. So who knows.
Jones obviously. Anyone who followed the Rockets last season would know that. Jones is younger as well. If DMo vastly improves his game, he will start this season. We'll see how it plays out.
Jones and it's not even close .....DMo needed the summer league to get his confidence up jones played way better last year. and I'm expecting jones to take the next step this year
Dmo was never good. He's tall but his short arms subtract from it. Dmo lacks the fundamentals Yao had in the weight training department. That's it. Jordan Hill as well I thought I told you that. You can practice 24 hours a day it's still not going to make a difference. People don't lift weights no more. They just get a ball boy and practice the same mistake over and over.
Play a pick up game with a football player. They gonna get every rebound and hustle every time. That's what strength does.
Jones was a first year starter last season and averaged 12 and 7. Let's give him a bit of time to learn the game and grow physically (he's still only 22). He can learn defense if given the chance. The offense is there already.
