So, what about the monkeys sitting in the chairs of 27 other teams?

Did they trade away everyone to tank and fill the farm system multiple years in a row? Did they have the highest average spending pool 3 years in a row?

This was the first year they had a competitive balance pick, and they received it from the Orioles, ALONG WITH JOSH HADER, in a trade made by Luhnow for Bud "Chet" Norris.

Buxton sure is tearing it up this year, right?...right?

Huh? I guess Rio can go ahead and retire now that you have carefully analyzed his current production against future potential.

Not delusional, but some of us have the ability to understand that we are in a much better position going forward than we were 3 years ago.

Run along now....don't want you to miss the next episode of Baseball Tonight and forego all of the infinite baseball wisdom that goes with it.

Well, I'm convinced! Even though the Astros currently have the #3 best system per Keith Law, that's really the same as #30 because even a monkey could do that.

Stellar 2nd and 3rd posts though!

It is too bad we don't have Hunter Pence to trade again.

Really you guys haven't retorted at all. Luhnow got Josh Hader in a trade, congratulations, even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.

    McCullers was a comp pick...

You go on to insinuate that Buxton is not a better prospect than Correa? Thanks for proving my point about delusional.

I'm not saying we aren't better off than we were before, of course we are. Some of you just treat Luhnow like he is some kind of deity when he rarely makes the best decision. ANYONE could have improved the farm system coming in 2012. But please just keep dismissing everything because I'm not slobbing Luhnow's knob.

I don't think you know the difference between a competitive balance pick and a compensation pick.

It's all the same, a pick for losing Clint Barmes is hardly different than getting a free pick.

Actually, it's quite different, but don't let that throw off your well thought out whine fest.

Don't worry. I'm sure Buster and Gammy will feed you some more "wisdom" shortly.

Dankush somehow predicted that Carlos Correa would break his leg.

Regardless, just for your info, the astros have not had "multiple competitive balance [or compensation - ed] picks each year for the past 3 years". They have had 2. Total.

    One last troll-feeding question:

Josh Hader was all that Jeff Luhnow got?

It's also quite silly to argue at this point over which is the better prospect. They are both quite young, quite good, and have the potential to be superstars.

And you can't argue for Buxton over Correa without taking Rio Ruiz into account, if not McCullers too (we have no idea what Buxton would have asked for at 1.1)

    But we all know this.

why would we not be in a better position after 3 straight #1 picks? I dont get it? Im not saying Luhnow is a bad gm by any means, but he hasnt proven anything yet and some of you guys give him wayy too much credit.

We've gone up 27 spots. A lot of that, of course, is due to having the #1 pick three years in a row, but we've had people arguing they don't see how it's any different than just a couple years ago.

It's true that Luhnow really hasn't done much, anyone drafting at #1 three years in a row is going to improve their system a lot. GM's are judged on MLB results, not pretty prospects many of which will never do anything. We'll know what kind of job he's done once his drafts show up or don't show up in the majors.

    1) The 2012 draft was a stroke of genius. He took full advantage of the rules.

    2) There has been a real improvement for a number of pitchers, including increased velocity, which is something that occurred in St Louis as well.

Wouldnt any team go up 27 spots after three straight #1 picks? At the current time our top 10 prospects are roughly:

    1. Correa
    2. Santana
    3. folty
    4. appel
    5. hader
    6. rio ruiz
    7. Deshields
    8. Mccullers
    9. velasquez
    10. teoscar

now springer and singleton were both wade guys, and yes you can say that wade had tangible assets than lunhow but I still dont buy that lunhow has done miracles atm.

Correa and buxton could easily be interchangeable at the moment so its not like me a made an amazing discovery there. Has Mccullers really shown anything so far, yes I understand he has potential and it was a great choice saving money and nabbing a first round pick.

All im trying to say is until Lunhows guys make it to the majors I think its too early to call him a bad gm or a good gm.
