I think perhaps you give Marion his MLE deal if you were able to swing a trade for Dragic. Marion is your primary backup SF and can backup PF as well. DMo backs up PF and SF. You still need a defensive backup center presence. Not sure who that would be. Maybe Okafor. In any case... not happening, so dreaming over.

That has always been rumored, and there was some level of justification at the time. Lin had just come off of "Linsanity" and Dragic was a good player, but not a game changer. The NBA lives on the margin. Players may take small paycuts to play for a winner, but they don't take huge ones. Likewise for FOs/owners, they may sign lesser players vs better players based on non-basketball reasons, but not if one is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the other. The reason it hurts now is because of the Harden trade. No doubt Morey was thinking "tank" when he signed Lin, hoping that Lin could put up big stats and become a good trade asset. When we got Harden, the whole direction of the franchise changed. Anything new on the trade front? Any chance this gets delayed until September (when Gee and Hopson are eligible to be traded)?
Marion would be nice, but he would have to be a primary 4. Only way for Marion (or anybody we sign) to get burn at the 3 (in our hypothetical roster) would be if were to completely cut Daniels out of the rotation, or if somebody were to be injured. Signing Marion would move Motiejunas into being our backup C. Dragic/Beverley Harden/Daniels Ariza/Harden Marion/Jones Howard/Motiejunas Would have to be our rotation unless we traded someone. That team would be stacked, you would still have Smith, Johnson, Adrian, Dorsey, Gee, Canaan glued to the bench.
