Fair enough. Makes sense. Smart plan. But fallbacks don't usually work out so well for us lately. Do you think Dragic can be a 3rd star? I'd hope so, but I'm not seeing it. Dragic ranks 9-13th at his position IMO. If you go by PER, yeah, he's a legitimate candidate. But I'm not a big believer of his. I think you can still win with Dragic as your 3rd best player, don't get me wrong, I just don't think he's a star player. What would have been the best option? Ariza + Dragic Parsons + Lowry (we offer Lowry more right off the bat) Lowry + Ariza (we go with the cheaper Ariza) Not sure option 3 would even be possible actually.
One fallback that worked for the Rockets happened in summer 2012. Morey collected assets (trading Lowry for Toronto pick, for one) and created flexibility (amnestying Scola) and tried to trade for Dwight Howard. That failed, but then Morey ended up using the same assets to get Harden.
But that team giving him his new contract--assuming it's not the Rockets--would not have his bird rights unless he left in a S&T, correct? If he leaves Houston without bird rights on a 1 or 2 year contract doesn't that potentially limit his options in both 2015 and 2016, especially since he is seeking big money? Maybe there's a small chance Houston feels Dragic is worth the gamble despite the player option because they believe he won't want to leave without his bird rights.
I really see Dragic as the third star. Officially he wasn't voted, but he is definitely an all star caliber player. I think the burden of scoring from Harden is greatly alleviated and Gogi plays solid defense/hustles.
I think the makeup of their roster is the most credible information that Dragic will be available once Bledsoe gets his contract. As for the assets, it really just depends what they value. They may want a TPE as much as anything. That part remains to be seen.
There's been reports outside of clutchfans that both Hou and Ind are interested in him. Same reports say that if Phx keeps Bledsoe then Dragic is availible... So yeah, your wrong!
I think it would be fair to consider Da Return of Da Dragon as part of a "BIG 3" for the Rox considering that he just achieved All-NBA Third Team, NBA Most Improved Player, and had an All-Star season IMO. *This would also be a Feel Good move for some fans considering the exodus of Lin, Parsons, Casspi, & Asik.*
