I'm by no means a "scholar" on the issue, but clearly I know more about it than you seem to if you don't realize that there absolutely was a "two state solution" or "partition plan" in 1937 that was rejected by the the Arab factions, another "two state solution" was proposed ten years later and yet again rejected. You should probably broaden your knowledge base on the subject if you want to continue talking about it with an open forum.
Heh, at least you stick to your guns about it I guess. Anyway, you are free to believe whatever crazy propaganda you were raised with, but don't be offended when people have a bit of fun at your expense if you choose ignorance.
The world is moving right by you. History will remember you like it remembers those really stubborn last few supporters of Apartheid South Africa. It will be quite embarrassing for you, you will hide the fact that you ever supported Israel. Your claim regarding 1937 is not only inaccurate, it's a moot point either way. Just ask Ilan Pappe or Miko Peled what Zionism is and what it's aims have been throughout its history.
LOL, so now I "support Israel" simply because I called you out on your ignorance of the subject? It should be "quite embarrassing for you" right now, but that's the thing about ignorance, I hear it's bliss.
many of the people being massacred now were born decades after. not sure why the ****ty previous actions of Arab governments matters much to this current debacle unless you want this to be a larger point about how Israel's failure to accept a unity government and the prerequisite to a two-state solution is infuriating, and short-sighted.
Translation: "Not sure how facts matter, unless they serve to confirm the leftist anti-Israel bias I have adopted, being the follower that I am." Signed: Intern
Nope wrong, again, the world has very little sympathy for Hamas. The Arab world has totally turned their back on Hamas, and the Arab World has always hated the Palestinians.
All I was saying is that the Arab leadership really screwed up by rejecting two state offers in 37 and 47 because they didn't want to negotiate and they have been paying the consequences for that stupidity ever since. We could even go further back and say that if the Ottoman Empire wasn't foolish enough to pick the wrong side in WW1, we probably aren't having this problem now. Tons of stupid things had to make things where they are today.
Donate to UNRWA ATW or send off letters to your elected politicians steadfastly holding Israel's defence. The past is long dead history, and Arab governments have f**ked up. So have a lot of people. People are dying now. Your personal snappiness is cute. Too bad it isn't leading anywhere.
Hamas was isolated until Israel started trying to kill its way through everything. Isolated governments that can't provide for their people had a track record of being Arab Springed. Their political reconciliation with Fatah was desperate, and gave so much to Fatah because Hamas knew they were on the run. Not anymore, you can be sure of that. Hamas thrives on the notion of Gaza under siege. Now it's impossible for the PA, hell even Egypt to turn its back on the situation. Israel has given Hamas the reprieve it needs. Not getting paid and having ****ty utilities doesn't compare to getting the living daylights bombed out of you. Hamas will be stronger for it, the two-state solution will be weaker. Israel is committing suicide on the peace process---but then it was fairly obvious the current administration were never true believers. But the fact they had to let it all blaze out like this---how long before the West Bank emerges into violence? This is a strategic nightmare.
When you elect a terrorist government, people dying is inevitable. The Palestinians all but begged the Israelis to retaliate with all the rocket attacks and now it's happening. How anyone could have objective sympathy for either side is beyond me.
I do have objective sympathy for the Palestinian civilians who do not participate in the Israel hate and are affected by the current fighting, and for the Israeli civilians who have to seek shelter from constant rocket attacks from the Palestinian side of the border or who have been killed, injured or lost property. I have no sympathy for the Palestinians who commit, aid or abet acts of terrorism. Should there be transgressions coming from the Israeli side because of which innocent civilians on the Palestinian side are affected, I have no sympathy for those who commit those transgressions.
Were they supposed to just continue to let rockets fired by Hamas terrorists rain on their civilian population? Thousands?
I have A LOT OF sympathy for the majority of Palestinian civilians who are not associated with Hamas. Some for the Isreali citizens who are not associated with Likud (they're in a much better place than mass shellings). 41% of people voted for Fatah in the 2006 elections. 44% voted for Hamas. This kind of logic of collective punishment and sympathy for none is a similar strain to shi**y logic that A-Q and other groups apply to Western civilians who have voted in ****ty admin. after ****ty admin. I should mention that NO CIVILIAN should be killed because of their misguided political beliefs---in 2006. Or in the recent Israeli elections. Or anywhere. Obviously not too many people high up in this conflict think the same apparently.
Hamas was isolated and on the ropes. They diverged over Syria. The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt were replaced by a military regime that insists on mass executions. Israel's current political administration chose to spend time bullying Fatah that had chosen the non-violent route, and going berserk at a Hamas-Fatah unity government that was very favourable to the PA. Israel's political arm chose to aim for some kind of misguided short-term military prowess that will cost them any chance at peace---for a very long time.
